Apple iPhone 5
by jacketpotato
This is a different review to what I would usually do.
I want to emphasise the unsatisfactory points of the iPhone 5. Why, you may ask. To me the iPhone 5 is a fantastic device from phone to do anything and everything object. I love it to bits and can't see how I got about without it before. It definitely plays a large part in ... my now networked life.
It is easily a five star product, and you should not be disappointed should you choose to buy one for yourself.
So what do I not like about this smartphone?
Bluetooth. This is a feature that can be found in many connected devices. On the iPhone it can pair with other devices such as headsets and speakers. But I feel that it is missing something very important. The ability to connect to other phones to transfer photos and other files. This is a horrible mistake, when trying to send a photo to another friend's iPhone, she was standing in front of me, it took forever to find an adequate solution, I couldn't bluetooth it, had a poor signal so couldn't email, Whatsapp or iMessage it due to it constantly transferring, none of that new NFC, so how do I share this pic in its entirety? Eventually we gave up and I emailed it from my PC when I got home.
Customisation. You don't buy Apple products expecting to be able to customise them. But it certainly would be nice to have some widgets on the screen and change the look of the layouts so I can make it my own. This also includes adding shortcuts for options like flight mode, enabling and disabling rotation lock. Solution, if it is legal to you where are, jailbreak your device. otherwise don't.
Lightning cable. I'm only talking about the negative of the cable here. This required me to purchase two lightning to old apple connector adapters and an extra charging cable for work. This is so expensive, almost £70 this cost me!
Fixed memory. What a nice feature expandable memory would be, buy your device, then expand the available storage for films, photos, music etc. with a micro SD card when you need it. But no, instead pay through the nose to buy a device with a fixed amount of memory which you won't quite know if you'll fill. And then fill it up in a week and be sad that you must now remove stuff you thought you needed on your phone.
These are the negative points I find to be most annoying. I want to reiterate this. Like I said at the beginning of the review, this is still a five star device that I would find hard to do without. Read the complete review |

HTC Desire C
by JoelM
I had finished my contract and had an upgrade available I'd had a choice between an iPhone and this. I made the complete wrong decision which tied me in for 2 years with this under average brick. I am still not out of this contract yet and I don't even have the phone! We'll get onto that later though.
These are the specs and ... capabilities for this phone:

-HTC Sense version is 4.0
- Has a Beats Audio sound enhancement
-Memory card slot is microSD and can hold up to 32GB
-Internal storage is 4GB
-512MB RAM
-Has bluetooth
-The camera is 5MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, can record video
-The OS is Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which cannot be upgraded to the next level (4.1 Jelly Bean)
- The CPU is 600MHz, Cortex-A5
-Has a radio. GPS
-Comes in Polar White, Stealth Black, Flamenco Red
- Organizer
- Document viewer/editor
- Voice memo/dial
- Predictive text input
Now that all of the boring stuff is out of the way lets talk about my experience with this phone. Now at first I was more than happy with it, played the games I wanted it too, could watch YouTube videos, do the general stuff I would with my phone. But this did not last. After around 4 months I started encountering problems. This started with messages taking forever to load which I passed off as being because it was clogged up with stuff so I deleted them, same problem. I tried deleting so many things but nothing worked, I dealt with it for a while until more things started to go wrong. It would delete apps randomly, reset randomly, couldn't answer calls, messages decided to stop loading after a while.
It got so slow I was always getting frustrated so in the end I called up HTC Europe and they collected it and 'fixed it' It came back was alright for around a week then the same problems appeared, sent it off again. Came back and now the phone wouldn't charge. So I have now currently sent it off for repair for the third time, they have had my phone for 2 weeks now, I have contacted them they said they have no idea what is wrong, or what may have gone wrong I was told to wait. I am now very angry and disappointed with HTC. Maybe this is why I am being so harsh on the phone, this company has acted like a start up run by idiots. I can't believe how things turned out.
I reviewed the Wildfire and for a phone at base level it is better than this because it actually lasts. I am simply annoyed with HTC as a whole with their phones and service. I personally was thinking of getting the HTC One when I first got this phone now I am staying far clear of any HTC product in the future. Unreliable in so many ways.
Although my personal views this phone did work for a few months and was great, short term its great. Long term it is a complete waste of money and time. Read the complete review |

Nokia C3-00
by illusiveman
-When I bought this phone and what made me decide to buy it-
I first read about this phone online shortly before Christmas 2010 as I owned a touch screen phone at the time that I was dissatisfied with so I decided that I wanted a phone with standard buttons.
Once I decided that this would be my next phone I added it ... to my Christmas list and received it Christmas Day, I used it for just under two years until I replaced it with an Android phone.
-Features-
This phone has a QWERTY style keyboard so is handy for texting without having to press a certain number repeatedly to type out messages. It also comes in handy for browsing the internet when you need to log in to a website.
The text messages in this phone display as conversations like most Android phones do nowadays. This also makes it easier for you to find an old message from a specific contact without having to scroll through hundreds of forgotten messages.
The camera I believe is 2MP (Mega Pixels) and although isn't the best quality I still found it very useful for taking photos while traveling, the phone also has a video built in and although I haven't used it a lot it comes in handy when you are messing about with your friends or want to grab a quick recording of something that may be happening nearby.
The phone has internal storage of about 55Mb which isn't much but does include a 2Gb MicroSD card and has support for up to 8Gb, I had a 4gb card in mine and it was more than enough for all my pictures that I'd taken, videos I might have recorded or downloaded off the internet.
Bluetooth is built into the phone to allow you to transfer files to another device such as another phone or your computer, although it isn't very fast it still comes in handy if you just want to transfer a photo to a friend's phone who might be sitting in the same room as you.
WI-Fi connectivity is also built in to allow you to connect to the internet when connected to your home WI-Fi connection or at a hotspot such as a train station, airport or a service station.
There is a USB port which I believe is on the bottom of the phone (It's been a while since I've used the phone so I'm not 100% sure on that one). The USB will allow you to transfer your files to and from the device quicker than Bluetooth and comes in handy when you might have filled your phone up with lots of files such as photos and videos.
The battery on this phone I've found lasted me about a week, sometimes longer but the phone would constantly be nagging me to charge it after 7 days, this is still better than other phones where I've found the battery might only last 3 days at the most.
I believe three games are pre-installed on this phone which are Bounced, Sudoku and another game I can't remember the name of, it also includes apps such as the calculator and the internet browser (Opera Mini)
The internet browser included with this phone is Opera Mini which is an okay browser but I found I didn't use it very often when connected to the mobile internet.
-Disadvantages-
As I mentioned earlier in the review the phone has a QWERY style keyboard which is easier than just using the numbers but I find the buttons quite small so I have to text slower as a result to prevent me constantly pressing the wrong buttons.
The USB port on the phone is a special design and is a different size to the standard Micro USB cable so means you are stuck with the cable supplied with the phone which is pathetically short (probably around the length of a human finger), I also find that if you lose the cable it means you can no longer connect your phone to a computer to transfer files to and from the device.
-Overall Rating-
This phone was a very good replacement for the previous phone I had been using and was a welcome change from touch screen to normal buttons, this phone has been very good to me apart from the rare freeze or crash, overall I give a rating of 4/5 for this phone, I would have given 5/5 if it had bigger buttons on the keyboard.
