Dell Streak
by Z_E_U_S I remember when everyone was queuing up for the I-Phone 4 18months ago and I thought - No, I want to be different. So, I perused through the local phone store near work and found they had an exculsive - the Dell Streak. 16 Gb, great for storage; nice big screen, loads of great games on the Android market and they are a lot easier with ... the big Dell Screen - but that was one of the things I had to weigh up.....the SIZE. If you want a nice petite phone, that will fit in your back/front pocket - this is not for you. However, if you are looking for that thing that is in between a phone and a tablet....Ladies and Gentlemen - we have a winner!! I LOVED MY DELL STREAK, I do a long commute into work and literally have enough time to watch a film. I love playing some of the touch based android free games such as gems and web browsing is a treat. Having such a large screen is a massive benefit and the resolution is crisp and clear. I will profess that that the weight and size can be a bit frustrating at times and it will need a daily charge if you are constantly using it, but worth it in my point of view. With regards to the size problem, that's what bags were designed for, to put stuff you want with you in!!! Overall, if you are looking for a device for online browsing with the same experience as if you were using your laptop (just a bit more compact), looking at pictures of your treasured memories without squinting and a well fast processing speed, let alone the rest of the funky little things it can do too - plus when you start downloading android apps free/paid you will be impressed!! In my humble opinion, you should go down to your nearest stockist and have a little play with it and if after the first 5min you are still thinking about the size and not how much it can do for you - then go start looking for anything on the market that can compete with this device on quality of screen size v. resolution, good storage and versatility of use with all standard expectations and available on a reasonable tariff free or to buy. Dell Streak
by thunder_hammer + is for my edits ============ The Dell Streak, a 5inch screened behemoth that feels too large to be a phone and too small to be a tablet (although on the packaging it is stated as a "tablet") Ahhhh schizophrenic gadgets! Quickly I will add: If you buy this or have this update it straight away to ... Android 2.2 With phones getting larger and many running Android OS the distinction between phone & tablet is difficult to figure out. I would say, if you're holding it up to your ear and it's the main way to speak to people then it's a phone, if not it's a tablet. The Dell Streak is big but not too big for your pocket and not too big to hold up to your ear so it's my primary phone. The 1Ghz processor inside feels zippy for most tasks but compared to a LG Optimus 2x or Samsung Galaxy 2 it feels sluggish. +First things first, the speaker on the phone is far from brilliant, it's often difficult to make out what people are saying at the best of times. I'm fairly sure that it is the speaker that is at fault here and not the connection or the other persons microphone but this is difficult one to figure out nowadays. The battery life isn't brilliant, until I figured out how to turn off background data updating the battery life was quite short to the point that it would go from 70% to 20% overnight when I wasn't even using it! The camera is average I would say. 5 mega pixels is all most really need but the quality of the images lack due to the lens/ccd. At first I was feeling a little bit cold towards the Android OS compared to IOS (as found on Apple devices) as it felt a little undeveloped and rough around the edges. After much use though I would say with a bit of patience, Android is a a great OS for mobile devices and will only get better. The Dell comes pre-installed with Dell Stage which is basically the home screen and app drawer; how it looks and functions. I have no problem with using Dell Stage but it's easy to install something more customisable like "go launcher". I love the 5 inch screen. It will be difficult to go back to using a smaller screened phone now. I find the screen to be sharp and vibrant. To my surprise my Streak came with a 16gb sd memory card which I find to be more than adequate for my every day needs (thanks Dell for shipping a large capacity card and not a 512mb one like some companies do!) I really love my Dell Streak, it might have flaws but the size of the screen alone makes it fun to use and a conversation point with strangers who are always stunned by this huge shiny black device you'll be wielding! + As a tablet the Dell Streak works really well, it's above average in terms of speed, the controls are well placed and the screen is very responsive. As a phone however, the call quality lacks and the reception sometimes drops (although again that might be a problem with my network) but texting works fine. I use the swype keyboard that it comes installed with and sometimes switch to T9 like the good old days, I'm undecided which keyboard I find works best. +For me the less than average use as a phone isn't really a problem. I would say I use it for daily tasks, browsing and doing work on more than I use them to call or text people. +A quick tip: When in your pocket, place the phone with the screen facing away from your leg. Either the static or the heat makes the screen less responsive. I believe this is a problem with other smartphones too but the problem appears to be worse with the Dell Streak. Dell Streak
by vieri3217 As I was browsing through new phones o the internet and in shops, I was looking for something unique and something that is not as common as an iPhone. I came a across a phone with a large screen that put the iPhone and other top phones to shame. It was called the Dell Streak. Packaging I read about it and heard ... great reviews so I went out and purchased it from my local mobile retailer. When I took it home and opened the box I was amazed by the beautiful black finish and size of the device. In the packaging you get a standard usb charger which also is used to send data to your phone, a pouch which is also used from cleaning the screen. You get a hands free kit that is excellent in sound quality when making calls and listening to music. The clarity and loudness of the music is excellent and is up there with high end mp3 players. Contours and design The design is something unique. It is also called a tablet/phone. The phone is like a tablet computer but it will fit in your hand nicely to be used as a phone. The phone has a rubber feel to the sides which prevents it from slipping away from your hand and the strong glass will prevent you from scratching it easily. It fits nicely in your pocket but does weigh a little bit, it's about 200 grams. You get some buttons on the side for photo taking and volume controls. Technical hardware specs The phone has a powerful processor is 1GHZ which is greats for multitasking and performing daily functions with ease. It has such a high resolution of 800x400 which is so easy to read and looks so vibrant in colour. You will se the difference when watching full screen videos, pictures and webpages. The massive 5 inch screen is one of the main reasons for me purchasing the device. Best of all the entire camera is crystal clear in picture quality and it has led lights for a flash. Battery life The battery lasts a long time. I used it for 3 days of heavy use with messaging, game playing and music. For a device this big, you would think it will be power hungry, but performs very well! The GPS feature is most probably the factor that will drain the battery life but by not that much. Android platform It's a shame that it came with the android 1.1 software but never fear there is an Android 2.2 coming out which will give out greater flexibility in what the device does and will performs better which results in improved battery life. Overall I am very happy with the device, it's a great price and it is loaded with features that will keep you entertained for hours on end and improve productivity for business.
