Advantages: Time saving device
Disadvantages: Slowly becoming a time wasting device
I first bought my first smartphone, the Apple 3G in 2010. It introduced me to being able to regularly check my emails while on the go, the wonders of twitter, time wasting applications and time saving ones.
As far as the actual phone goes it took me a while to work out how to text efficiently as I wasn't used to touch screen and a full keyboard, but when I did it was totally worth it. Calling people, answering calls and adding new contacts didn't take me long to get to grips with. Battery life however isn't great, especially if you are constantly using applications it will drain pretty quickly and in my case needs charging at least once a day.
I prefer the design of the iPhone 3's to the newest iPhone 4's as I find it lighter. The screen is very touch sensitive which is great and had amazing resolution for its time, although, of course it has been outdated by the retina display of the iPhone 4.
I would certainly recommend a screen protector and phone case as one small slip of a hand or misplacement of a the phone into a pocket full of coins, can result in an expensive trip to the phone repairs shop.
In recent months however, I have lost all love for my iPhone. The newest updates are being made unavailable to us "oldies" this is gradually making it near impossible to use the newest apps and even previously downloaded ones. The phone itself has drastically got slower, Apple seem to be forcing us to upgrade and inevitably we will have-to.
RIP iPhone 3
Summary: I would recommend the newer iPhone as they still have the same quality that this phone used to have
