Advantages: Excellent Screen, Great Operating system, Premium Build, Good Camera

Disadvantages: Expensive, No flash on camera, Screen doesn't work with fingernails

The iPhone 3G S is a very advanced and very expensive smartphone by Apple. In my opinion it is one of the best out there and this is why.

The iPhone itself:

The back of the iPhone is made of a sturdy and very shiny plastic that unfortunately is a scratch magnet. The sides and top are made of the same material and have some buttons on them. On the left there is a volume rocker and also a silencer switch. On the top there is only a power button. The right handside is bare. The front features a single button and a 3.5inch glass capacitive screen.

Software:

The iPhone 3G S runs on Apple's proprietary iOS operating system. (Version 4.3.5 is latest as of 02/08/2011)
The iOS operating system runs like a dream on the iPhone 3G S (probably because it is optimized for this particular phone unlike Android). The operating system comes with all the basic "Apps" that make up a standard smartphone and also a few other mod cons.

The most famous feature is the revolutionary App Store where you can purchase "Apps" and Games for little to no money. The apps can be extremely useful (ie sat nav) or very pointless (ie Truth or Dare).

Battery Life:

The battery life is above average for a smartphone of this standard. You can watch up to 10 hours of video playback on one charge which is more than enough for even the most avid movie lover! Unfortunately the battery is non-replaceable so if it develops a battery fault you will have to go to your nearest Apple Store.

The Screen:

The screen on the iPhone 3G S is an absolute dream and I personally cannot see much of a difference between this and the iPhone 4's "Retina" display. The screen is very responsive and navigating through menu's is as easy as pie with no lag or glitches at all! The multi touch is so good that you can even have 2 player table hockey games on the same screen! For some reason it doesn't work at all with fingernails (not good for greasy hands or women!)

The Camera:

The camera is a bog standard 3MP with no flash which is a little disappointing when considering the price tag. The images produced are however good enough for facebook etc. The video camera is capable of 720p but for whatever reason Apple limited it to 480p which is good enough for HQ (not HD) YouTube videos.

Summary: A phone worth saving up for! Would recommend over iPhone 4 (unless you desperately want the latest)
