Apple iPhone 4 16 GB
Advantages: a great working addictive phone!
Disadvantages: too many faults, and I genuinely don't think it is designed to last longer than the 1 year warranty
I lined up outside carphone warehouse on the day this phone was being released as having suffered for 18 long months with my blackberry I just couldn't take no more! Little did i know that my ordeal would be far from over :(
So I am now on my third iphone in just a matter of 18 months! The first one I acquired from carphone warehouse was faulty. The iphone kept deciding to switch off and random times, and the screen was unresponsive to charging via mains or plugging into my laptop to put music on etc. and I was frustrated. It took 3 visits to the apple genius bar for them to agree it was faulty and issue me a new one...Very annoying when you just want a phone that finally works and they keep telling me to go home and try restart it or to back everything up AND then come back if it still doesnt work. arrgh!
This second phone did actually work perfectly fine. However the screens are absolutely useless and shatter with just the slightest contact with the floor. My daughter managed to drop it on the bus which then created a small crack across the top corner of the screen. I went to an iphone repair shop and the apple store to see if this could be fixed, and they both said that the models of the iphone 4 is significantly different to that of the iphone 3 and that screens were no longer able to be fixed and I had to completely buy a new phone! What nonsense! So I then left it be. Until I woke up one morning to switch off my phone alarm and accidentally knocked the phone off the bedside table resulting in the screen shattering completely! :( so of course I couldn't even see the screen anymore so succumbed to go to the apple store to buy a new one which was £140 (for a replacement handset). Fortunately for me, the guy at the genius bar lost my SIM card, so he said he would give me the replacement phone for free but would order me a new SIM card. phew! since I did not particularly want to pay the £140 anyway, and it only took 5 mins to call 02 and transfer my phone details to the new micro SIM that is now required for an iphone.
So I am now on my 3rd phone which I have only had for about a year and it has managed to survive with me being VERY careful and cautious with my phone 24/7! The button is very temperamental and sometimes it freezes but I think it has done well to survive the last 12 months with me only having to go to the apple store when my iphone headphones somehow got stuck in the socket...how? goodness knows. Their response was to use superglue to remove it....I didn't do this but thankfully went to an iphone repair shop where they unjammed it. They also said the superglue remedy was negligent advice as all it would do is ensure the jack would remain glued in the socket! So word to the wise, do not take all advice from apple employees as gospel...half the time I'm sure they just say whatever they feel.
In relation to the actual phone though, I would have to say I LOVE IT! And it is addictive...big time. There are a million apps to choose from which allow day to day things to flow with such ease. I have a natwest app which means I can pay bills such as nursery fees and my rent easily and securely with a touch of a button saving me time on turning on my laptop! Easy access to emails, social networking sites, reading and writing documents which I can also print to my wireless computer when connected to wifi at home are just one of a million things I can do on it that I couldn't do on a blackberry. Google maps helps out when I am lost, the games are addictive and with everyone I know, the phone is permanently glued to their hand as there is just so much to do on it.
The camera is amazing quality, so half the time I don't even bother taking my camera out with me to take pictures as I can easily do so on my phone. The only snag is with the memory! I didn't realise how quickly I would use up 16gb! I have around 460 pics/videos, 21 tv programme episodes in my ipod and 952 songs and maybe close to 100 apps and I went to download some more tv programmes and was told I had not enough memory! Was quite disappointed as I thought I had loads of space!
In comparison to the old iphone it is a lot thicker and slightly heavier, but having gone straight to the iphone from a blackberry I thought the phone was amazing and compact and did not have any qualms with the size of it. The only thing that can be annoying with this phone is more attributable to apple in general as every time I plug it in there seems to be some new software or such to download which takes AGES to update. I am more than happy with the old software, as IOS5 although much better and has iCloud it changes everything so ipod now becomes music and videos seperately and to be quite honest I have gotten used to it as it is!
Summary: Addictive, worth the price, hope everyone is good at maintaining such a phone!
