Apple iPhone 4 16 GB
Advantages: Great phone which can be personalised to the user with apps
I'll start by saying that I am not massively technically minded, but I just wanted to give a review of this phone because I cannot be without it!
I upgraded to the Iphone 4 from previously owning an Iphone 3G and have been loving this phone even more then its predecessor. For starters, I got the 16gb version of the phone, which was double the memory I had on my previous Iphone. 16gb seems to be sufficient for my needs, I currently have around 40 apps, with about 800 songs on my Ipod as well as some photos stored on the phone. I have a few videos stored, however I find that if I accumulate too many my available memory definitely suffers, so if videos and photos are your main thing, then perhaps consider whether 16gb will be sufficient memory for you.
On to the look of the phone, I have the white version and unfortunately have dropped the phone a few times resulting in some cracks on the lower part of the phone. Iphones are certainly not indestructible and my advice should you get one is to invest in a case sooner rather then later, as not having one means that you could end up with some cracks on the screen if you are anywhere near as clumsy as I am!
In terms of weight, the phone is very light, weighing in at 140grams. The phone feels very light in my hand and not at all bulky or cumbersome. It fits well into the palm of my hand and is comfortable to carry around if I don't have a bag with me. The phone has one button at the bottom, which will enable a user to bring the phone back to the home screen, I have found this to always work perfectly for me with no issues of it sticking at all. Battery life is not amazing, I have to charge the phone every night as I use it for a lot of different reasons in the day other then simply calling/texting, which I think drains the battery. The plus point is that it only takes around an hour to charge the phone to full strength each evening. On the left hand side of the phone are two buttons which easily control volume, with another switch to turn the phone effortlessly from loud to silent. The top of the phone has a button which turns the screen off, saving battery when not using it!
The main face of the phone is taken up with the touch screen area, which allows the user to navigate through their apps and all the features of the phone. I have never had a problem with this touchscreen, it is responsive and I find it effortless to text, send emails, scroll through apps and play games etc. The phone has a few extra features which I think are brilliant, including the ability to share your internet connection by allowing friends to log onto your personal hotspot. So for example, if I want to play a game with a friend who is an ipod touch user but they have no internet, they can share mine by me turning on my personal hotspot and voila! It is worth nothing that some networks charge you to do this, however the network I am with (3) at the time of writing this review does not charge me to use this feature.
Overall I think the main selling point of the phone is the ability to download apps from an ever growing catalog of thousands, which means each phone can be personal to the user. So for example in a standard day I will use my phone to listen to music on my spotify account, send emails, tweets, check facebook, use instagram, do my banking, watch netflix, read the news, even pay for my car parking!
Overall I give this phone a 4/5, simply because they can be so costly to procure!
Summary: A great phone which has served me well!
