Apple iPhone 4 16 GB
Advantages: Stunning design, large memory to store music, pictures or apps, easy to use
Disadvantages: Battery life, expensive
The iPhone 4 was my first foray into the world of Apple nearly two years ago and I wasn't disappointed. Available in black or white I went for the less flashy black colour but personally I fell the white one is not as brash as first appeared and would be more than happy with a white one next time. The 3.5 inch screen with retina display, gives a beautiful quality display whether you are viewing pictures, videos or playing games. The phone is 4.5 inches long and 2.3 inches wide and weighs only 137 grams. This means it will slip into the tightest of pockets with ease without feeling bulky or obtrusive.
The camera is 5MP which is not far off many reasonably priced digital cameras. The pictures are of a very high quality but they lose some definition when using the zoom. You can also take videos which are very high quality as well.
You can use your iPhone to connect to the internet through the 3G network when you are out and about and also to a wireless network when at home or in a café. This is a great feature as it means you can access the internet as much as you want over wifi and not use up your internet allowance with your network operator.
The official battery life is 300 hours on standby down to 6 hours when using the internet. On an average day, calling, texting, internet etc I find I have to put it on charge every day. Although the battery does seem to wear out quite quickly it will charge up just as quick with a 20 minute charge often getting the battery back up to 20 or 30%. As well as plugging in to a socket you can also plug it into your USB socket in your laptop or PC.
There have been a lot of concerns over the screen and the back of the iPhone being very fragile. In my case I have dropped it and knocked it about and it is still fully intact and with only a few minor scratches on the front and back after two years. For me the durability and build quality is of the highest standard.
There are also lots of other features. You can listen to music using the free headphones and with a 16GB memory you can comfortably store over 2500 songs or about 200 albums. You can have all your different email accounts to be sent to your iPhone. Bluetooth is available to connect to other items such as your car. You can sync your iPhone with your laptop so you won't lose any pictures or music you have downloaded from iTunes. Because of the popularity of Apple there are millions of apps you can download from the app store which will enhance your experience such as games, sat nav and business apps.
Lastly is the actual phone calls, which nowadays is quite often not the most important feature for many people when buying a new phone. When released there were concerns about the quality of phone calls when holding the phone. In my opinion I never had any trouble but was more than grateful to receive the free case that Apple gave out to help this problem.
The iPhone 4 is a great all round phone with stunning looks. It is possible to get the iPhone free on a contract of about £36 per month but is very expensive if you use pay as you go. Whether you want a phone for making calls, doing business or just playing games you will not be disappointed. It is very easy to use and very quick to begin using but with enough settings to keep you interested for years.
Summary: Amazing smart phone that will not disappoint whatever your expectations are
