Apple iPhone 4S 16 GB
Advantages: Excellent quality, does everything you need and more
Disadvantages: The price
My partner upgraded his phone contract a few months ago and got himself an Iphone 4S. I already had an iphone 3g but adored his new phone and ended up playing on it more than he did so in the end he purchased me one so he could get his back.
These phones are available in black and white so I went for the white one as I thought it had a more feminine look to it. I knew how to work the iphone having one previously but I could immediately see quite a vast quality difference between the 3G and the 4S.
For a start, the picture and sound quality on the 4S was far better on the 4S. The picture quality is excellent with the colour and detail being crisp and there is no interference whatsoever with the sound quality. The 4s is available with a memory size of 16gb, 32gb and 64gb. I have the smallest in the 16gb and this is absolutely fine for me. I have a huge array of apps and loads of music and photos etc on my phone and I still have a huge amount of memory left so the 16gb is fine for standard day to day use.
The 4S is a little thicker than the older iphones but I think this is a positive thing as it feels more sturdy and the design of the phone is excellent and it really does look and feel like a good quality, top of the range phone. I would highly recommend a case and screen protector for the phone as they are easily scratched but I would definitely try Ebay as my case only cost me £2.49 from Ebay.
For those of you who have never owned an iphone before, these phones are extremely easy to use, even for those who struggle with technology. The main screen includes the usual icons of contacts, messaging, emails, settings, clock, calendar etc which are the usual main icons on a phone. On top of this you get the added Apple extras of itunes, music, video camera, camera, and the application store.
The application store is where you purchase all your 'apps' from. If you have seen the iphone adverts, you'll see their motto is 'theres an app for that' and there has never been a truer word spoken. There really is an app for everything. So much so that your iphone becomes far more than a phone to you. My phone is now my lifeline and I check news, social networking sites, play games, check my bank account, check my phone account, check the weather forecast, find new recipes, do my weekly shop etc. Many of the apps are gimmicky ideas that are just a bit of fun, but many of them really do help organise my life.
There is an excellent range of both free and paid for apps. You have to enter your credit card details into the phone the first time you purchase an app and create a username and password, though when you purchase future apps, you only need your username and password as your bank details are stored. You can back up everything you purchase on your phone by connecting your phone to itunes via a computer so if anything did happen to your phone then all your apps, photos etc are backed up.
The phone doubles as an ipod as you can download music from the itunes icon and this then transfers the music onto your music icon and you can play the music via either a ipod docking station or you can even play it in your car if you have the correct connection.
Some features that this phone has that my previous iphone didn't have include a video camera (my old one only had a still camera) and facetime which is excellent. This is basically a video calling feature where you can see the person you are talking to, though they have to have this phone too for you to be able to use this feature. You also have a kind of personal assistant in 'Suri'. You press the menu button at the bottom of your phone which reveals Suri. You ask any question and the idea is that Suri answers your question for you. This can be a random question or something that is relevant to the organisation of your life. I don't use this often as I haven't found it to be completely reliable, but it is quite fun!
Depending on what network you are on, you can get this phone free with contacts usually over around the £40 mark, or you can pay a bit towards the phone (usually around £99) and have a cheaper contract. As my contract wasn't up for renewal at the time, my partner purchased mine direct from the Apple store for me for £499.99 which is obviously a lot of money for a phone but it is well worth it if you use it to its full potential.
I use mine 24/7 and so far it has proven to be reliable and I have no hesitation that it will remain this way. Other phone manufacturers have made phones to rival the iphone, but after using my iphone 4S, I can honestly say I would never move to another brand of phone as I just can't see how the iphone can be bettered. It is an excellent phone, fun to use and can really help organise your life. Everything I need to do can be done on this phone, even watching television!
Obviously for many people, the price of the phone would be an issue, but if you want a great smartphone, then I would highly recommend this iphone 4s. It looks the business and does everything you could possibly need it to and more.
Summary: An excellent phone
