The iPhone 5 features polished looks, a larger screen and faster processor than its predecessors. Whilst being a pleasure to use, it is questionable whether the changes are significant enough to justify the price tag.

One of the best phones I have ever had...

      Wow, an iPhone.

I wouldn''t dream of owning an iPhone. It was not only known as a high tech, incredibly interactive smart phone, but also notorious for the price. So, when I got this as a present from my mother, all I could say was... wow.

I have got a white iPhone 5, with 16GB capacity. It looks great, slightly slimmer but longer than the previous iPhone 4. I personally like the white one better because it looks rather girly compared to the black one.

My first about a smartphone with touch screen keypad is always it''s responsiveness to touch. Not only that I text a lot, I sometimes post blog, making notes, or drafting articles on my phone too. The keypad comfortability is very important for me, and based on my experiences before iPhone, touch screen keypad was always slowing my creative process down. And, that doesn''t happen with iPhone.

The back camera quality is impressive, but the front camera is not so. With the new feature which comes up after you upgrade to iOS 7, you can even do more with the photos. Taking photos is fun. Of course, it wouldn''t make you a real professional photographer, but it could make you feel as if you are.

Even if I don''t listen to music a lot from my iPhone (because that''s what iPod is for), I could say that the sound quality is also wonderful. I happened to use it once or twice to watch videos and make video call and the sound came out clear. I am quite impressed with it too.

It is a very fast phone. You could use it to do almost everything that a tablet could do, just in a smaller display. The battery runs out very fast too!

Well, that one wasn''t really the benefit. In a very busy day, I had to carry my charger literally anywhere, and stick and charge it whenever I can. I happened to buy a power bank, and it was very helpful when I was travelling and in the need of constant power supply.

Overall, this is one of the best phones I have ever had. I thought 16GB is a lot, but knowing so many things I could do with this phone, I wish I had more capacity.

      A great all round smartphone

A great all round smartphone. I have become so reliant on it and use the vast array of apps available in the app store for a wide range of everyday activities. I've had it for over a year now and there have been no real problems with it, very reliable. Asthetically the device is very pleasing, with a stylish design. Performance is as to be expected with apple devices, smooth and fast. The device is also very user friendly, I have hardly struggled when configuring it.

The only concern I have is the battery life. I use the device so much that the battery hardly lasts me a full day and therefore I need to keep a charger with me at all times. Another downside is the lack of flash compatibility when browsing the net.

The phone is not cheap (as with all apple products) but it is worth the cost given its capabilities.

Great if ou have the money!

Having previously used cheaper options of smartphone, I was expecting to feel like the Iphone was a waste of money. However, the app store is much better than the android version and it makes a big difference which apps you can download. the operating system is easy to use and much more aesthetically pleasing than other options. I find the 100mm be a good size too. The drawbacks are the battery life which does not last long at all and I constantly have to keep my charger on me and some dotted in different places like work and in the car which can be irritating. It is also a lot more expensive than other phones and cost about the same as m laptop, having said that, it is a portable computer of its own and most everyday things can be done through the phone now. The best part of having an apple is facetime, this has made keeping in touch with family whilst living aboard much easier and something of a life changer.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A great phone, worth its cost & reputation.

I am the first to admit that Apple products can be overpriced and have always avoided them because I felt you could get the same product at a cheaper price and as I am quite thrifty I've managed to survive 4 different smart phones, none of which being an apple. With that being said, there are definitely some great deals going around and you CAN get an iPhone on a great 24 month contract.

With my renewal coming up, I did start to look at iPhones as I was the last of my friends to have one (I wanted to join the iPhone club!). I had to chose between the iPhone 5 & the more cost effective but older 4/4s. I read several reviews which all said that they were very similar but that the iPhone 5 was just that bit better, so I decided to get the iPhone 5.

Oh...My...God... I'm a convert, I take back any previous comment about being overpriced for what they are. Yes they are expensive but they are so worth it ! I love the sleek design (the iconic white phone which means everyone knows what you have!), the range of accessories that suddenly become available to you, the camera is out of this world ... genuinely the picture is so clear (too clear sometimes for my liking when trying to look attractive for a selfie!) The phone is so quick, between pressing the button and the app loading takes no time. I love Facetime, I didn't know phone calls could be so amusing!

My ooooooonly grumble is when typing, there's no back button so that if you make a mistake you can change it without have to delete and retype. I know that you can use your finger to press to the misspelled word, but that can prove to be difficult at times (either after consuming a few too many, or early in the morning when my eyes are refusing to open fully!)

Amazing product - amazing design, amazing operating system. Just amazing

I purchased this phone on contract last year and it is definitely the best phone I have ever owned. I am completely in awe at Apple's ability to produce such flawless and stunning products.

I have used many smart phones over the years and even as recently as last year some of the so called 'fantastic phones' did not impress me. There were some with serious lagging issues when scrolling or interrupted actions when trying to access certain functions. Apple completely blew me away with the iPhone 5. There is no doubt this phone is one of a kind.

When I opened the box, the unmistakable design and stylish design was outstanding. Completely modern and definitely a gadget lovers dream. The operating system is flawless and smooth - I have not had any problems with any operating system updates. The iPhone 5 is slightly longer than the iPhone 4 which I previously owned but is much lighter. I couldn't believe the difference in weight.

As most gadget lovers do, I use my phone for much more than just phoning and texting and the iPhone certainly encourages many more uses. There is an almost endless supply of apps available for download along with several pre-installed apps such as basic functions like a calculator, compass, weather information to more complex apps such as stocks and shares, news stand and passbook.

The sound quality and display are phenomenal - the brightness of the display is easily altered and shows just how clear the display is.

The only down side would be the battery life. If you use your phone as much as I do (which is a lot the battery does drain quite quickly. Constant usage for internet browsing and apps for a few hours will very quickly result in the battery needing charged. As long as you do not mind charging your phone quite regularly, this is not a major issue.

Overall, an amazing product and one I would recommend over and over again.

        Awesome phone

I have got my Iphone 5 black 15gb when it came out so on 21st september 2012.
I`m very happy with it because it fast it`s looks nice and fells nice when I hold it in my hand.
The only thing what I`m not happy with is the coloring, with no case it will come off, and the battery.
But I believe in the future Apple will improve on this.
Anyway the problem is the charging.
Around a year you`ll experience some sort of contact issue when you want to plug in your charger.
        DON`T PUSH IT THOUGH!
Also do not worry about the warranty.
Simply take a niddle and carefully clean the dirt out of the iphone and TA-DA... It is working.
        Life is nice again..
I`m happy with my Iphone again and I will not buy anything else because Android is the worst OS system I`ve ever seen.
But I`ll write another review of that as well... :)

My favorite Christmas present in my opinion

I received this gift as a Christmas present this Christmas just gone after some time eyeing it up in the shop debating on whether it was worth the hype or not. I'm so glad I received it is really really good at everything it does which includes organizing me and my day as well as providing me with entertainment on the go.

I love the way the camera is on the iPhone 5. It allows you to capture photos in many different dimensions as well as providing new and fun effects. The storage on it as well is in its own category. Although I have noticed other people complaining about its storage I find it has the capability to store as much information you want it to without an annoying pop up box saying there isn't much storage left.

The iOS on this phone is also very appeasing as well. I really like the smart way in which it presents the phone as well as the rate at which I can do things. To this date I have not found any problems/bugs/errors that have occurred on this phone and I would even view it better than my trust iPhone 4. On the other hand the price is a big detrimental factor. I would only suggest you buy this is you are in a good financial situation as this can set people back a lot. Although I agree that buying the iPhone 5 will surely last you a very long time and will not leave you disappointed or on the verge of getting rid of it.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

The iPhone 5 is definetely worth the money because it looks smart and is a definite upgrade.

I would just like to start my review by saying that I honestly love the iPhone 5!
How it looks: It is sleek and thin, it weighs barely anything and is very light to hold in your hand.
You can tell the massive difference between the iPhone 4s& the iPhone 5. First of all I felt that my 5's battery lasted a lot longer than my previous 4s. The quality of the camera was noticeable and with the new ios 7 update you could also put on some brilliant effects while taking 'selfies'. I also had a dig around the app store and noticed that I could find a lot of apps to make money from. Talking about apps I realised that they were more fun to play, not because the app had changed, but because of the quality of the screen it was clear and you could see everything! Also when dressing my iPhone in 'clothes' cases, i found that my phone didn't get the appearance of looking more bulky with a case on it still looked as thin as one without! I also noticed that the iPhone 5's front camera was just as impressive as the one at the back which was a pleasant surprise! The phone was impressive and definitely looked the part, I myself have the white one I like how on the back it has 2 panels at the top and bottom that are shiny and the middle section is a matte white.
I am on a contract sim only 12 month plan, I get unlimited minutes and texts and 1gb of data, it is only£6.80 after cashback from quidco, my plan is with vodafone, i just got it!
My phone was around £300 from this little shop called Fonetastic in Darlington.
I really do recommend you get this phone because it is worth it!

          Great phone. Would recommend

Having previously used the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 I was expecting this to disappoint me when i bought it, however it has not. I find the 10.2cm size to be just about right to get all my normal phone activites done. As well as some personal time such as Netflix or app store games, Which brings me onto the app store. This is much better populated (In my opinion) than the android market which is a major selling point of smart phones now a days. The iOS 6 is a refreshing change from previous operating systems, although the backbone from them still remains. The problems i've found with this phone seem to be pretty much what everyone else finds. the screen is VERY fragile and a case is a must have. And the battery life more often than not doesn't last a full day. Having said that I feel the positives on this phone outweigh the negatives

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Good phone but not the most inovative from apple!!!

There are several things I really like about this phone but then other way it just doesn't quite fulfil all that expectation I had.

I have had this phone about a month now, coming from the 4s I was looking for some new features, a bit more speed, better camera and overall more reliable unit. I use my phone very much like my personal assistant I do everything on it and it goes everywhere with me. I have an a Mac book pro and iPad so I was never looking at other phones as I love the lay out and set up that apple produces.

That being said, the 5, yes it's slimmer, does have what appears a better camera but I don't like the OS system. I know you can get it on the 4 but I uploaded it on my 5 and hated it. It took up too much memory and then seem to drain my battery. Following this charger... I wasn't sure how much hassle the new charger was going to give me, but it's a nightmare I've had to buy all new cables for the Car and ihome and more importantly when I'm out and my phone dies I can't just quickly grab one of someone to borrow.

That being said overall quality of this phone is great, bigger screen and lighter feel are definitely a great upgrade, I struggle with the maps on here apple has never really impressed me and even with the upgrades to the 5 it still lacks any kind of clarity. Luckly I love the app waze for any kind of navigation stuff.

Finally the last thing specific to the iPhone is its lack of durability, I noticed the case had a lot of small scratches from really no heavy use. I always look after it and keep it in a case so I feel that is phone will look tatty in very little time.

I have tried to review on the iPhone specifically as a phone this is a great product but compared to previous iPhones I'm not sure this is model you would rush to upgrade too, let's hope apple come out with something better.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A good phone, if you're not looking to change from Apple products.

I upgraded to the iPhone 5 not long after its release from its younger cousin, the iPhone 4. The model I have, and will be reviewing, is the Black 16GB version. This model retails at around £350-£400 depending on where you get it from and if you buy it new. I will begin by reviewing the cosmetic and hardware features and then the internal/software.

          Hardware:

The difference in weight of the phone was noticeable straight away. Apple has managed to drastically reduce the weight, whilst improving performace. This, I feel, is one of the highlights of the phone and Apple deserves recognition for this. The phone itself is longer; the screen can hold an additional 'app' logo per page and this improves the quality of watching videos and movies. The camera is of good quality; what you would expect from that model, and the rear facing camera is now located in the centre, rather than to one side, meaning that you get a more centred picture of yourself when making video calls. With the iPhone 5 Apple have decided to move the audio jack to the bottom of the phone. I have found this more of an inconvenience than a good point as it makes storing your phone in your pocket/on a running arm band more difficult when listening to music; two things that I regularly do.

The quality of the speakers are good, in line with what you would expect however, Apple could have easily done better and the speakers are nothing to compare with the Apple rivals, such as HTC, who make excellent quality speakers. The same can be said for the headphones, whilst Apple has re-designed the look of them to make them more comfortable, they have not really improved the overall listening experience.

The screen has a higher resolution than that of Apple's previous models, but this feature is not particularly overwhelming, or something to boast about.

The battery life of the iPhone 5 to me, is very similar (if not worse) to the iPhone 4. Through general usage I can make the battery last a whole day, but if you forget your charger when travelling you will struggle to make it last any longer than that. Another point relevant to the battery is the new charging input. Apple has redesigned the charger to a new, smaller charger. So, if you have an abundance of iPhone 4 audio docks and chargers, you will no longer be able to use them.

          Software:

The speed of the processor is noticeably different from the iPhone 4; There was very little lag during the first 14 months of usage of the phone and it wasn't until I began more frequent usage and the phone was beginning to reach nearly full capacity that I noticed it beginning to lag. In terms of new features, the iPhone 5 is pretty much the same as the 4 software-wise. The key new feature was the integrated panoramic camera that it offered; however, iPhone 4 users wishing to take panoramic pictures can do so with an additional app. The Apple app store is easily the best on the market, but this is not a feature limited to just iPhone 5 users (yet).

Overall usage and look of the software is identical to that of the previous models and Apple have done very little to give the phone a real 'new' feeling. Users who have had previous Apple products will likely find the novelty of the 5 wears off very quickly.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          I'm an iPhone saddo

I was way behind the times when it came to smart phones. I just didn't see the point. A mobile phone, I thought, was just for making calls or sending texts and since my trusty 5 year old LG did those things, I just wouldn't get the use out of an iPhone. How I was wrong! Since my husband (via the kids!) treated me to an iPhone last Mother's Day, I genuinely haven't looked back and I've become one of those saddos I used to pity who couldn't live without their phone!

          ~ Price ~
To buy an iPhone without a contract you're looking at over £400, even now that the newer 5s version has been released. My husband bought mine from Vodafone on contract and got a good deal including texts and calls. He got a discount because he works for NHS (worth knowing for any other fellow NHS-ers!) and he pays around £32 a month.

          ~ Appearance ~

As far as I am aware you can buy the iPhone 5 in white, silver or black, and mine in silver. The phone itself is smaller and more lightweight than I expected, although this is comparing it with my 5 year old LG brick! The front of the phone is predominantly the main screen when you can find your apps, make phone calls etc. You have the "Siri" button (which I will go into later!) at the bottom and the charger port underneath. I bought a flip style case for mine to protect both the casing and the screen. I think you can by official Apple ones but I bought a cheapie one off ebay which, touch wood, seems to be doing it's job so far.

The phone has a retina display which makes everything easily visible, and then is an option on settings, to reduce the brightness. I find these handy if using it when it's a bit darker so it doesn't hurt my eyes.

          ~ Basic phone functions ~

As I said earlier, all I originally wanted from a phone was the ability to send and receive messages, and to make phone calls, and you can do all of this using the touch screen keypad. During phone calls you can also put the other person on speaker phone and use the other apps/internet etc while you are still talking to them. The touch screen is responsive and easy to use and I've not personally found it any harder to type on a touch screen than the old button type keyboards.

          ~ Camera ~

The phone has an 8-megapixel iSight camera which means absolutely nothing to me! What I can say is that the camera takes good photos easily. I like that you can take a lot of photos in a short amount of time by tapping the camera icon. It's virtually impossible to get a photo of both my kids smiling at the same time but by taking multiple photos while they are still posing, I can pick the best of a bad bunch. The photos are also easy to edit, crop and rotate.

The video camera is equally as easy to use and you can easily switch between to the two by sliding the icon across.

          ~ Battery life~

I know a lot of people complain about the battery life of iPhones but I don't really have an issue with it. If you remember to close the apps in the background it helps to conserve your battery time. Obviously apps such as the sat nav and games cause the battery to be used up more quickly but this is to be expected.

The phone came with a charger than can be used in a traditional plug or can also be used in a usb port. I've used both ways and never had a problem. I do actually find that it's quite quick to charge.

          ~ Internet and emails ~

The iPhone uses Safari for the internet and again, I've found it easy to use. You can open multiple windows, use private browsing and add bookmarks easily.

When you get the phone you can also register for an icloud account which gives you an email address. Any emails are easily accessible by the envelope icon. Sending and receiving emails, inserting photos etc are all done within this function and it's very simple to do. It's much handier than having to constantly log in to hotmail to check your emails as you automatically get an alert when you receive an email.

          ~ Apps ~

There are so many apps that you can download that it's hard to know where to begin! The one's I use the most are ebay, facebook, spotify (music) and my kindle app. I have linked my kindle to the iphone and downloaded the kindle app so when I am out and about I can read my ebooks without having to take my kindle with me. Ebay and facebook make using these websites much easier and I found it so much simpler to list things on ebay using the app.

The phone automatically comes with a map app which can be used as a sat nav and gives direction. I love this app as I have no sense of direction so it can help me out when I have got myself lost.

I have loads more apps, Topcashback, Quidco and voucher cloud are all good for saving/making a bit of money, there's games such as candy crush and Wordz, I have Instagram and Twitter although don't use these as often yet. I also have a little app called Wunderlist where you can have various lists and tick things off when they're done. I love a good list at the best of times and really found it useful at christmas so I could make sure I hadn't forgotten anything.

          ~ Protection ~

I have a pin code password to access my iphone to stop unwanted people having a nosey. I also have a password that is needed before downloading any apps. The last thing I want is one of the kids to start downloading £1000s worth of apps!

I also have the find my iphone app so if it ever goes missing I can log on to my icloud account on any other device/computer and it will locate it by gps.

          ~ Siri ~

To access Siri you just hold the little button at the bottom of the phone and ask it to do things. Such as "ring mum" or "open facebook". I hardly ever use this though, as Siri doesn't care for my lovely northern accent and often mishears me and then time I've taken repeating myself in a voice like the queen, I can just do it manually!

          ~ Conclusion ~

So to sum up, I love my phone. It works well as a mobile phone and I can text and call to my hearts content but it's so much more than that. I use it more than I realise and I really would be lost without it now. What a saddo!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

If you don't mind being addicted to Apple products for the rest of your life, go for it.

            Hi ya'll,

I've had an iPhone for the past three years, and during that time I've tried a few Androids (such as the HTC Sense) and HATED them. To me there is nothing like an iPhone, the interface is great, easy and quiet beautiful. The 5 is perfect for me, I love taking pictures, so the 8 megapixel camera was a huge bonus when buying it outright.

Not to mention the fact its light and durable (if you buy the right case and don't throw it down concrete stairs - yes I did that and yes it would've cost me a fortune to replace had I not just brought myself some insurance). If you like to listen to a lot of music I'd go for the 32GB, I know it's a big more expense but you'll need it. I have 4 albums worth of songs on my 16GB and it's almost out of space. A girls gotta have her apps.

My honest opinion is that the phone is brilliant, I'm an avid Apple fan and I always will be, but if you want your iPhone to last, buy a good case and don't be as stupid as I've been in the past. Buy. Enjoy. But take care of it.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Very good, although I suggest charging your phone fully before leaving the house!

Personally, of all the phones I have had, this is by far the best one I have ever owned. The speed and graphics of the iPhone 5 are simply perfect; it is simple and easy to use and understand; it is quick to turn on and off; it is attractive and fits in the hand comfortably; it has wonderful sound quality and a very helpful Siri included in the software! It also has a very useful function to set up your own Wi-Fi which others can connect to if they have the correct password. Apart from all of this, the iPhone 5 is a great phone that you can really personalize and make your own; you can change all backgrounds, log in to all your accounts, create your own password or pass code and obviously choose what apps you want. In fact, the only negative point that I can find is that the battery power is not very long-lasting. Overall, however, the iPhone 5 really is the best phone that I have ever used.

Apple are losing it - go for Android

This is a top-quality phone, but there are better phones out there. Put simply, that will be the main thrust of this review.

I'll start with the positives. Firstly, the build-quality is excellent. It's a premium phone and it feels it - metallic, smooth, and surprisingly light. Only the HTC One comes close to the iPhone in terms of the quality of the build. The screen's slightly bigger than on previous versions, but the phone itself is lighter.

Secondly, the ios7 update is welcome, and brings some pretty useful features, most notably the notification centre.

The screen quality is crystal-clear, pristine, and playing movies/streaming TV looks beautiful.

Battery life is also very good.

But, though it is a quality phone, I no longer feel Apple are ruling the roost when it comes to smartphones. There are so much more things you can do with an Android phone - better customisation, for one. With the iPhone you're basically stuck with a screen with all your icons/apps lined up.

Also there's no expandable memory, which is a real negative for me as it means I can't put all my music on here.

Also the price - it's simply not reasonable anymore to expect somebody to pay this much for an iPhone. Basically, you're paying for the name 'iPhone' and the supposed prestige that comes with it. I'd much rather pay a lot less for a better phone - which, nowadays, is easily possible.

So there you go. That's my two-penneth worth.
