Blackberry Bold 9900
Advantages: Fast software (at first), good camera, very smart and sleek looking, easy to use, great for all uses
Disadvantages: Software not completely reliable, becomes slow a bit too quickly
I first purchased this phone on pay as you go last January as a replacement for my old Blackberry bold 9780 which broke unexpectedly so I was slightly wary as to whether I should purchase another Blackberry mobile or not, but I decided to get myself a Bold 9900. I pretty much liked the idea of having a QWERTY keyboard and apps such as BBM where I could easily talk to people on a top of the range smart phone and also have a touch screen included!
I personally found this phone very attractive since it has a shiny and also very sturdy metallic finish all around the sides of the phone and on the top and bottom to go with the sleek glass and plastic on the front of the phone. The back of the phone is a very smooth plastic but is very annoying to remove if you are like me and do not have long nails! The keyboard lights up when the screen is on which makes typing an easier job to do. Volume and camera buttons are located on the right side of the phone which are very easy to access for the user of the phone and also have a metallic finish. It weighs 130g which can come across as heavy for a mobile but in my opinion it gives it a very strong feel and also is meant to be a slightly bulky phone anyway since it has a large 2.8'' screen and also a nice chunky QWERTY keyboard which is very useful for typing fast with ease and also is helpful if you just generally prefer typing on a bigger set of keys!
The device itself includes a TFT capacitive touchscreen and I can definitely say that this touch screen is one of the most responsive I have ever used and also is not vulnerable to being a slow touch screen and also with its multitouch it can be used for many things such as zooming in and out of webpages. An original Blackberry touch pad is included on the device which can be adjusted to whatever sensitivity the user of the phone feels is necessary and it is very fast, it also is the latest Blackberry track pad which doesn't let dirt in so therefore will always be able to function without things such as dirt getting stuck inside it and stopping functionality of the cursor. Calls are very clear and the speaker is also quite loud so music playback is an advantage on this phone. It has a 1.2ghz CPU and runs off Blackberrys o.s and in my opinion is a very fast type of software to have but not always very reliable. The phone also boasts a 5mp rear camera which can record in 720p and is one of the reasons why I like this phone as picture quality is very clear. 8GB of internal storage is included inside the phone and is useful for storing things such as pictures, music and videos and I use mine as a media device most of the time! Internet also runs pretty smoothly on this phone as well.
Literally after 6 months of using the device and keeping it in the best condition that I could, it fell into an error that stopped the phone from functioning and I couldn't seem to get it fixed anywhere and it took me ages to figure out that I needed to wipe the o.s from it and completely re install it which was definitely a huge downside since a problem like this should not have happened to a top of the range smart phone! Even though I have upgraded to an Iphone, I still use my Blackberry and this is because it has apps such as BBM, however the Blackberry is only a year old and I experience a black clock coming up every now and then (this freezes the phone) and sometimes even more frequently even though I regularly do battery pulls and most people I know with a Blackberry have this problem too. Also after the phone was fixed, 80% of the time after that a red line started too appear on every picture that was taken on the phone and this problem seems unfix-able and it is a disappointment since it ruins the amazing picture quality of the Blackberry's camera. The battery also is not great whilst in use as when using the 3G internet it only lasts up to 5h and 50mins talk time.
==Price and overall conclusion==
This device can be picked up for around £280 or on a contract depending on what you prefer and this a pretty reasonable price for a top of the range smart phone of its kind. It does what it should do and has some great features such as its graphics, touch screen, camera, software and many more and if you are looking for a smart phone for any kind of use (especially business) then you should definitely consider this device. However, if the software was a lot more consistent and ran a lot smoother and faster over a larger period of time then it would be much more reliable and be an even better device than it already is!
Summary: Great phone for the money its worth but not garunteed to last as long as it maybe should do
