Blackberry Curve 8520
Advantages: Looks nice, BBM is fun to use with friends
Disadvantages: the iPhone outs it in every department
The Blackberry was a must buy for myself, maybe it's the buisness man look or the Blackberry messenger, either way I couldn't wait to buy it. A year down the line I'm not quite so sure about my purchase.
Firstly the look, it looks good I have the silver one and it doesn't look or feel half bad in your hand. Side by side with my iTouch sadly the iPod wins out everytime. The Qwerty keyboard seems a little odd at first but in fact when in use is one of the biggest features that I truly enjoy.
The apps next, well they aren't really that good. The games are basic and some can be rather expensive. Compare that to the iPhone and apps are in their millions and many being free or 69p you really cannot complain. Themes as well are basic for ther most part, you can make your own but that will take even the most budding media geek a fair few days to accomplish.
Operation, It runs pretty smoothly, load it up with a few songs and even the media player is simple enough to use. The settings lets you customise most anything too which is a nice touch. Feel like you want to change your font hey presto you can it does feel that little more unique with little things like that. It's not all good though, you'll notice that the Curve once every month or week even will slow down, you'll be typing letters and it will have to load up every 3 letters, a massiv inconvienience. Basically this is your phone telling you to reset it, but even after doing that it takes an age to start up again. Very annoying when your in a hurry.
The buttons also have a habit ot failing, a few of mine have intermittently and my other halfs 'a' key has failed entirely making locking the phone impossible. It also has a habit of simply shutting down on you or just as annoying simply freezing mid-operation. Not something you would expect from RIM.
Sadly as ever you've got to compare them with an iPhone, two comepletly different machines, I do realise. The thing is the iPhone is better, not even by a little bit but by a considerable margin. I wish now I had gotten one from the off even as a Blackberry fanboy. All I can say is lesson learnt.
Summary: The thing is the iPhone is better, not even by a little bit but by a considerable margin
