Got this phone for free when my contract finished December 2011.
It was the second touchscreen i have had, however the first HTC phone i have ever had.
I have always had a Nokia. I decided to get this phone because i just wanted a change from Nokia.
It is very easy to work, nice to handle and fits in your pocket. The touchscreen is really good you can even use rubber gloves.
It has a easy to use lockscreen. All you have to do is drag the ring and enter your password, which can be either a word or numbers.
The camera isn't great, compared to other phones. The camera has only 3 megapixels. If i wanted a really good camera phone then i wouldn't get it. Also it only has a storage of 90Mb to install apps.
When my contract finishes i would be keen on getting another HTC.
I use a different phone for my work and to be honest it is the phone that I tend to use the most as I am at work more at the moment. I never knew much about the HTC brand before I chose this model but now that their popularity is growing I have become more intrigued in looking at their models. I went to a phone retailer and they recommended this one too me as I didn't want a ridiculously expensive phone for work but I did want one that would have all of the necessary features that I would need to keep in contact.
The HTC Explorer is a really nice phone to look at, it is black with a 3.2" screen which is a touch screen and it weighs 108g with the battery and is perfect for holding in the palm of your hand. I like that the HTC logo is on the top and the vibrance of the screen. A few touch buttons on the bottom are for searching, for going back and getting to the menu screen, all shortcuts just to make it easier to use this. The actual measurements of this phone are 102.8mm x 57.2mm x 12.9mm to give an idea of size.
The HTC Explorer phone has a lot of features to bring up but to start with the touchscreen, it is ok to use but it can be a little too sensitive for my liking and I don't find it the easiest to use. I use touch screen phones a lot but if you hit one button it can open up the wrong thing and it really is one that you have to be careful with when using. I think to help with this problem, it is best to turn the phone sideways as the screen moves with it and the buttons go that little bit bigger to help with typing issues.
The display on this phone is very nice, it is a bright home screen, you can personalise it and as soon as you open the phone up you get the clock and it shows the date and time. You also get the weather widget which is great telling you the temperature that day. The good thing is for the apps that you use the most you can actually add them to your home screen so that it is a quick link to that app rather than scanning through the menu. Also, the display is very clear and it is easy to use this screen.
When using this phone I think the call quality is great, I have no interference and can hear the person on the other end very well. It has cut out on me once or twice for no reason but all smart phones have issues these days with so much running on them. To adjust the volume, you just need to use the buttons on the side to put the volume up or down which is always good when on a call. The screen resolution on the phone is 320 x 480 which is great and the screen is bright and the colour is very sharp.
To use texting on this phone is another major part you will use, I think it is easy to use and like most phones has predictive text, and emoticons are really good on this too with a wide variety to choose from. The camera on this phone is 3 megapixels which is ok, not the highest but the photos do come out good and I find it does the job. The video on this is also ok, not the sharpest but again it is fine for what it is, this isn't the most top of the range of models especially for a camera.
There are other features on this phone like alarm clocks, gallery options and the phone comes with a USB cable to upload media to a computer. The phone also has Bluetooth if you are using this to transfer photos etc to other devices or other people's phones. This phone originally comes with 512MB of storage which isn't a lot but I got a micro SD card to add more storage to the phone so I could use the video features and now I can get more use from my phone, it holds up to 90MB of data.
To add contacts to this phone is not the easiest to do and is the one downfall of this phone. I know I have stored contacts on here but can never access this easily, whether I have saved to phone or SIM and this has caused error, I don't know. The internet is easy to use on this phone too and it loads quickly and is 3G, the connection is very steady on this and the phone can connect wirelessly if you need it to but I get internet allowance in my contract so just use internet through the provider.
One of the final things to talk about with this phone is the apps which are a big part of a smart phone. The phone displays all icons clearly and the apps are great, especially for an Android phone. There are so many you can download, I have a few I use more than others but all are easy to access and you can get apps for pretty much everything especially as Android are on of the major platforms apps are designed for. I am happy with Android it is one of the best operating systems I have used and it is fast.
To buy this phone you can get it for £112.99 from Amazon but shop around as you can get this on contract or pay as you go, it depends what you're after.
The official HTC website is great and very informative you can go there at http://www.htc.com/uk/
