Disadvantages: becomes slow and battery life short
I admit I did not do my research prior to purchasing this phone. Where as I normally spend weeks trawling the internet, reading reviews on a number of different phones, this time it was simply not possible. Upon checking my trusty old Blackberry for texts when leaving a lecture, it just would not work. Thankfully for me I was due an upgrade, and despite the fact I was originally going to wait for my contract to expire, I found myself with no choice.
HTC is only a recent name to me, I only first heard about this brand in the summer whilst working in a phone shop. My contract is with Orange but I have always gone through Phones4U. The very camp and enthusiastic salesman, after telling him my preferences, was very quick to recommend the HTC Wildfire S as my ideal phone. At 26 pounds a month for 24 months, 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 750 mb of internet, I was getting a far better deal than previously, but what about the features, I wondered? Well, he explained, this is paramount to a mini Iphone! Running on Android, you get many of the same or similar apps as Apple, has regular weather updates on the home screen, plus news and all of the other features you would expect from a mobile, all in one tiny white package. Sold!
I was fascinated by this phone, I honestly thought I would never be bored again thanks to the endless list of applications available. I immediately transferred my music onto it and downloaded Angry Birds. Happy days indeed. However, as time has gone on, I have realised this phone can not stand the test of time, shame really when I have it for another 23 months!
A month in, the screen is already scratched. I had a 'phone sock' for this phone, but on the one day I took it out without it the screen scratched, so 100 percent buy a case with this phone. The phone is lagging, constantly closing applications due to errors and needs charging twice a day at times, even though the usage is relatively low. I literally take it off charge at 10am, send a few texts and the battery will be on orange by 4pm! Overall I would suggest this is a phone for people who would love a smartphone but who arn't too bothered about its performance, and I personally don't worry about that too much as I havn't had any better phones prior to this.
Summary: Cute phone, perhaps best for personal use rather than business
