Advantages: Stylish, Wide range of applications, Intelligent phone
Disadvantages: The worst battery life of any piece of technology iv ever owned
Right I know that iv only recently published a review on the Blackberry Curve however Iv just took the opportunity to upgrade my contract phone and am now a week into possessing a totally new brand to me, HTC wildfire.
HTC stands for Hit the Cell which has no relevance to how good/bad it is I just thought you might like to know. Anyway I decided to throw caution to the wind and looked in detail at this phone as I scoured the Carphone warehouse website. I was interested in this particular brand mainly due to its increasing popularity and also because I had played around with a friends desire phone just weeks prior.
However one issue continued to pop up on forums and reviews about this phone and other HTC's, Battery life. Now I took the battery life complaints from people with a pinch of salt because I seemed to remember people saying the same about the Blackberry and they proved not to be true.
Sadly for me they were right. I have had to pretty much charge this phone everyday Iv had it now and for the first day or two I could not fathom out why my phone would just die during the night while I was asleep. However I now know that all the applications (widgets as there called) that require updates constantly like my sky news feed for example, Constantly updates itself even during the night when the phone is out of use, also the blue-tooth, wifi also constantly saps life from this phone.
There are applications that can also be downloaded that kill any un-needed activity's that drain power so it can be sorted even though it is a nuisance. Applications are the saving grace for this phone there is a massive back catalogue that can rival anything available on other phones including Iphone. Ive just installed a barcode reader to scan items and then it takes you to a google price comparison site to find where to buy it the cheapest, Just simple novel ideas like that make this phone enjoyable
Its worth noting that this is my first ever touch screen phone and it must be said that it does take a bit getting used to as I have accidently rang people or spelt words wrong in text but now after few days I feel im up to speed with it.
The layout of the phone is totally customisable and you can drag and move all the icons on your main screens to wherever you like and move the apps you don't use off the screen all together. There are also many available themes and styles to download so that the phone is designed to the way you like it.
One little note on an already built in application on the phone the maps app. I was recently wandering a city neibouring my own looking for an address I opened maps and it pretty much instantly had an arrow showing where I was and it moved as I did, I then used this to direct myself to the address, Was a great little piece of software iv never used before on a phone.
The screen is a very big touch screen with excellent colour and graphics and it is worth noting that as an owner of an ipod touch I do find that the Ipod touch screen is slightly better and faster. Making phone calls the most important part of a phone obviously are easy to do and the sound quality on calls so far for me have been absolutely perfect as too has been the ease to send and receive texts
The phone itself is very thin and very light, Mine is the brand new silver style one and it does look very stylish its a very good looking phone.
I have found this phone to be very much a novelty phone with its intriguing way to use the touch screen and the great applications that I haven't had on my past phone however I do believe that once the novelty of it all wears off that the over hanging battery problem could well make me slightly doubt ever getting this phone but we shall see.
Summary: If you can see past the battery headache its a brilliant phone
