Advantages: Quality phone with simplistic ease of use
Disadvantages: Setting it up is a right old carry on ... you need a PC to switch the phone on!
I have owned a Sony Ericsson android for the past few years and would now & again show my mum things on my phone. She had an ol flip-phone which she loved, but come birthday time I decided to get her the iphone. The iphone4 was just coming on the market at the time but it seemed there was quite wait to get one so I plumped for this older model.
SET UP: (dreadful) Put yourself in my mum's shoes - she has no PC, she isn't terribly clued up about technology & she has no idea on how to set up a phone from scratch. I thought it only fair that I set up the phone for her & hand it to her 'ready to rock an roll' so to speak.
I came in a cute little box package but had no big instruction manual. I am usually a whizz at setting up new equipment so got stuck right in. Try & try again, I could not even get the phone to turn on. It kept telling me something about an inactive sim. After 5 hours of pulling my hair out I finally came across instructions on-line. You have to connect the phone to a PC to install i-tunes before the phone will even switch on. (errr...what if you don't have a pc?). Luckily I had my laptop to hand so managed to get it all set up ... eventually.
EASE OF USE: (simplistic) With mum being such a technophobe I did worry that being in her golden years it might be too confusing for her. So I gave her a wee bit of training on different features every few days to let her find her way about the phone. Guess what ...? She absolutely loves it. The cherished flip phone is completely out of her radar now and she actually takes her phone out on nights out to show her pals all the features. The functions are quite limited I feel (at least compared to my s.e. xperia arc s) but this is ideal for my mum. The biggest plus with this phone is the quality of calls as some smart phones don't have great sound quality on calls.
I won't blether on about all the features this phone has as I am sure you are well aware of them already. I just felt it was important to mention about the need for a pc and to give this phone the thumbs up.
Thanks for stopping by x
Summary: Decent phone which is perfect for the first time smart-phoner....
