iPhone 3GS 8GB
Advantages: Nice Look, Easy To Use
Disadvantages: Not Enought Memory
Well earlier today I reviewed my new iPhone 4S, so it was only natural that I would also review my older phone, the iPhone 3GS. I used this phone for over two years and as it was the first iPhone I've ever used it still holds a special place in my heart. So this is what I make of the iPhone 3GS.
First of all the look, it was pretty similar to the earlier models, a nice light phone that is very thin. The screen is huge and very clear. The back has a good solid piece of plastic which after two years of use has stood up very well to all the little knocks it has taken. The buttons on the side are very subtle and you hardly notice them and the on off button is tucked away neatly. One thing to mention if you are not familiar with the iPhone, the little slot where you pop your SIM card in is only opened using a little pin key.
When you are using the phone you notice how easy everything is. Back two years ago when I was first introduced to the iPhone it took me no time at all to pick up all the basic functions. I like the way that if you don't know how to do something you should just do what seems to make sense and this is usually the way the iPhone works. The touch screen is fantastic and works very well, after two years of use it still works as well as the first day I bought the phone.
The phone comes with certain apps already loaded in. So you have your little tools like an alarm clock, calculator, compass etc... Then you have the brilliant Google maps which is such a clever tool as well as other things like you tube and itunes. It is dead easy to download new apps from the app store and also download music to play on the phone. It is also very easy to sinc the phone with your computer, it all does it for you automatically when you plug it in.
The sound quality is good although the more recent versions of the iPhone are now slightly better. The camera is of a very high standard and works well, the 3GS does not come with a flash however which was something that I missed a bit with my phone. The earphones that came with the phone are also very good and have a little remote so you can alter the volume or skip through the track listing.
Overall I would have to say this is a superb phone. You can pick these up second hand now for around £80 and that is a real bargain. The 8GB memory was a little small as I had pretty much used it all so I had to delete content if I wanted to put new music on or download more apps, plus I had to be careful how many photos I took. But 8GB does give you plenty of space for lots of content, I had over a thousand songs on there. So there are now better versions of the iPhone out but if you want a really good quality one that is still perfectly good for modern day use then look no further than the 3GS.
Summary: A Top iPhone
