Palm Treo 750
Advantages: IT DOES A JOB WELL, SMALL, GOOD LOOKING.
Disadvantages: MANUFACTURES ENGINEERING PROBLEM GIVES IT A BIG DOWNSIDE
Palm Treo 750? Oh what an item! Such a useful device for your pocket/handbag, whatever.
I have had my Palm Treo 750 for about 8 months now but am not truly satisfied. This model cost in the range of £350.00 to £400.00 new.
The good points are: Great mobile phone, useful diary, calender and all that you need in a "portable" office. The size is right, the feel of it is good, rounded, and comfortable to use. A good user friendly hand portable PC for Internet use. It is a "good-looker" without doubt! Best style from Palm.
Not so good points: After about 4 weeks the touch screen went sluggish and then stopped working altogether! My first impressions were that I had overloaded the memory with additional software and so I unloaded it. No change! Around 50% of the operations are quickly done with touch-screen and stylus. I have lost that advantage although it is still possible to use it with the qwerty keypad that is good. Large fingers such as mine have a disadvantage but that is not a reason to moan.
Another downside is that the battery life after a full charge is relatively short, you can find yourself with a flat battery after about 6 to 8 hours usage or less. I purchased a heavy duty battery specially to combat this problem. Now the Palm is too large to sit safely in its snug leather protective case. Oh dear!
My biggest moan and findings of many who own one of these Palm Treo 750 are the same as I have stated and they have written to Palm regarding this matter of inactive, non-working touch-screen. No replies! Palm still make and do sell this model without having dealt with the very bad problem it has. There is no known cure as far as I can discern after much investigation. Palm or its representative sellers will in fact change the Treo 750 for another new one= repeated story!! Sorry Palm but for this model I can only give you 4 out of 10. This is a hardware problem and not possible to solve with a software solution.
I would love to see a Palm Treo 750 without this problem/s. A complete manufacturers rethink. A rebuild seems the only answer that I can come up with. Others might know different of course. If there is an easy cure out there, please tell me! I keep drawing blanks.
Regards to all and thank you for reading.
Summary: I WOULD NOT BUY ANOTHER LIKE THIS FROM PALM UNLESS THESE PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED.
