Advantages: Great budget smartphone
Disadvantages: Slow and unresponsive at times
The Samsung Galaxy Mini is a smartphone released in the early part of 2011. Its features include 3G, touchscreen, 3MP in built camera, GPS as well as full access to the android market. It is a cheap smartphone compared to many out there which is great for those who want something neat for a small price. So how good is it?
I got mine in summer 2011 on a contract with a large supermarket company. It was great as, because of the low price of the phone, I seemed to get many more minutes/call time included in my package. It was my first proper smart phone and so I have really enjoyed all it has had to offer. There is full compatibility with social networking and easy uploading of pictures.
You do however only really get what you pay for, and I have found a few niggly problems with the galaxy mini, including the occasional freezing, slow response time, random shut downs and due to its smaller processing power, lagging whilst playing many games. This has really limited to what I have been able to download and play as I have to ask myself whether my phone will be able to handle it.
Also There are several games which are incompatible with the galaxy mini, as again, it seems that its processing power is too small to handle it.
The screen itself is a nice and large, however compared to other phones, some may say it is not as crisp. The touchscreen feature however is great, making texting and surfing the internet a breeze. There is the ability to check your email as well as create memos, listen to radio, music and view photos. The camera is a high quality at 3mp and it takes great photos even for a little phone! There are three push buttons which include an options button on the left, and a back button on the right of the phone.
The overall design is neat, with a slim design and elegant black finish. It does not feel bulky in the hand and slips into your pocket easily. There are many cases which can be purchased for this phone and the battery life is average ie for me it would last approx a working day. The phone supports an SD mini memory card and headphone jack connection on the top.
Overall a decent phone for someone on a budget, but in hindsight I probably would have opted for something a little more powerful. It is available to buy for around £80+ for pay as you go, however, opting for a contract to enjoy additional perks may be a better idea for this one.
Summary: Great for those on a budget!
