The Samsung Galaxy Pro could be considered the 'little brother' of the likes of their newer handsets - and for good reasons. Always up for a tumble and things, but ready to kick off at the drop of a hat.
I bought this handset to replace my sorely missed iPhone 3GS about a year ago, and to begin with - my past grievances against Android vanished entirely!
My last Android phone had problems with battery life, storage, speed and a bit of an unpleasant interface at times - and admittedly - all these improved drastically... for a number of months. Like my last Android phone (a HTC), it's capabilities seemed to diminish over time. Don't get me wrong - I know this is to be expected - but surely not as quickly as this did.
A big bug bear I have with this phone is the memory consumption. Despite having an external memory card inserted, it somehow manages to fill itself up with garbage so quickly. I have monitored this simply by checking the number of photographs I am able to take, andwithin a month this goes from about 3000 (large mini-SD!) to none - with no changes being made to other applications i.e. no other photos being taken; no app updates being installed; clearing my inbox and caches incessantly. This can then only be rectified by going through and deleting what appear (both in phone and on my laptop) to be empty files.
Alongside this, occassionally, the phone turns itself off without warning - and not with the standard 'shut down' procedure in which it vibrates and trills, but just goes off. Simply pressing the button won't turn it back on either - I have to remove and replace the battery. My mother also has a Samsung Phone (different model) and this also does this.
However, the phone can takea few beatings and it is sturdy. The keyboard, despite its size is very user friendly, as are the function buttons below the screen. Generally, manouevering around the phone with the touchscreen isn't a problem, just every now and again it may do something loopy like bring up the calendar when you want your contact list, or even open the music player when you type the letter 'g', but this again is fixed by restatrting the phone - yes, it's an inconvenience, but it isn't the end of the world.
Overall, I wouldn't say it was a bad phone, but it certainly could do with some improving. I am sure if you got something like the Galaxy S these problems would not be a concern, but like I said, this is the small scale little brother, both in price and ability.
