Samsung GT i5800 Galaxy Apollo
Advantages: SmartPhone packed with many apps for a low price
Disadvantages: Battery life is very short, while the earphones are rubbish
Over 6 months ago I was shopping around looking for my first contract phone and I knew what I had in mind, a touch screen Smartphone, something new, free minutes should be average and the contract should be something like 18 months. In the end I negotiated to get my Samsung galaxy Apollo down from £20 to £15 but the contract was for 24 months.
Nice touch screen Smartphone. The camera is 3 megapixels. It is androids so you can download any apps which are for free but without downloading the phone comes with, maps, memo, music player, radio, chess, as well as others. But if you get bored of these there are many apps available to get you busy.
I was paying £15 per month. Calls to T-mobile numbers are free. Internet usage is also free based on a "fair usage", whatever that means, because I use the internet like every time and I have not been charged extra so it's basically free. Calls to other networks are 300 minutes plus 300 free texts. I choose those two boosters, however, you can choose to have free European calls up to a certain limit.
Monthly contract £15, but make sure you control calls to other networks because the T-Mobile contract charges a lot if you go pass your minutes. Overall the cost is quite cheap as compared to other networks who were advertising £20 per month.
This is the weakest part of the phone. The biggest reasons for the sudden deplation in the battery life are due to:
1.Android system 85% of the time. If you use for example, maps, play games or download apps then you battery level goes down very fast.
2.Speaking on the phone for as much as an hour will dramatically reduce your battery life.
3.Sometimes there is no warning that the phone will switch off because of the battery.
The earphone that comes with this mobile is absolutely rubbish. Firstly, you have to press the button on the earphone set to hear the maximum sound from your phone. Second having your volume turned to maximum will give the earphone another sound problem.
Overall the phone is very good with a bargin price but downsides are the battery, earphones and perhaps the camera being only 3 Mega Pixels
Summary: I would recommend this if you plan to buy a smartphone for the first time.
