Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc
Advantages: light weight, easy to navigate, large clear screen
Disadvantages: Texting needs concentration, even for a serial texter!
After having 3 htc cha chas, which i choose because of my total lack of love for touchscreens, i decided to take the plunge and get this for my next contract renewal. I was half talked into it by the store person who told me it was an excellent phone and also by my other half who has a similar phone but which is larger (not sure of the model). I decided i would give it a go, after all it doesnt seem like long before nearly all smart phones are touch screen so i thought id try and get used to it. My main concern is that i like to text while im not neccesserily looking at the phone screen, and i always find with a touch screen that if you do that half the message reads something totally different because its guessed what it thought you meant to write, and because you havent actually felt the button its much harder to aim for the exact spot of the letter you want!
Anyway, after unpacking and charging it, i started using it. Its a lovely light phone, and fits nicely in your palm so you can text and use it with one hand without too much difficulty in reaching the opposite side. its easy to navigate and fairly easy to find everything you need. The app store is easy to access and gallery and camera functions are simple to use. theres the option to access your facebook account photos on you gallery as well which is nice, but depending on your network and internet access it can take a little while to bring them up clearly (they are blurred as you wait for them to load). The camera itself is excellet! really clear and beautiful photos, easy to view properly on the large screen. The only thing is for example if your trying to catch a photo of a baby or animal who wont sit still for long it takes a few seconds to snap the shot once youve pressed the button.
As for the texting...well...i suppose il get used to it, and there are options to change it so you can have different keyboard layouts and suggestions turned on or off, but it gets better the more you use it as it picks up what you use the most and suggests them for you at the top of the text box, so for part of the time you dont even have to bother typing it out. Can i do it one handed without looking at the phone...NO!
Summary: Great phone, as long your pro touch screen i would definately recommend it!
