I got this phone as an upgrade on my contract just before christmas. I was reluctant to make the change to a touch screen phone but that was pretty much all that was on offer and I was told in the shop that they will nearly all be touch screen before long so I better get used to it.
The phone was free as an upgrade and I haven't seen one in the shop since, there was an X10 Mini pro brought out so this was probably the phone which replaced this one. These phones are available new on Amazon sim free from £118.
I chose this model as I wanted to keep my handset and give the new one to my other half. He wanted a Sony Ericsson again and found that most of the new phone models are too large to carry around in your pocket so the mini was perfect.
It measures only 83mm x 50mm and is under 90g in weight. The phone comes in a range of colours, I went fo the black. The back cover which holds in the battery can be changed with a wide range of colours available, the phone came with a silver and pink back to change but I think it looks best with the black the same as the front.
The whole touch screen experience was a bit tricky at first, though the size didnt really make much of a difference, when calling or sending a text a digital keypad fills the screen of the phone so it isn't too fiddly. After a couple of days we were used to the touch screen.
The camera is 5MP and the photographs come out well, there is a flash, zoom and autofocus. It comes with the usual features like snapshot and effects such as negative and black and white. I don't really use the effect just use it as a camera and video recorder and it does it's job.
There is a music player on the phone which I use quite a lot, the music can be played through headphones or on loudspeaker. There is also a radio on the phone.
How many songs, pictures and videos you can store all depends on the size of memory card you put in it. Mine is 4gb and there are hundreds of songs and pictures on it.
It is easy to navigate and easy to access emails and the internet on this phone. The reception is good. There is also a neoreader which a lot of phones have now but it was the first time I'd used it. It gives you the ability to scan a barcode and you can search for the product you have scanned online to find out information and check prices. I have used it more than I thought I would actually. A lot of companies are using these kind of barcodes for competition entries and things. It is an easy feature to use once you get used to it.
There is also a map finder, track i.d, stopwatch, timer, calculator, calendar and alarm on the phone. These can be found on most phones these days and are useful application.
The main problem I have with this phone is with the whole android operating system. It seems a lot of android phones have the problem of a short battery life. My old phone would only need charging at maximum once every 3 or 4 days but this android one needs charging every single day, even when it hasn't been used. There are messages coming through several times a week asking if I would like to upgrade certain phone features. I have just taken to clearing these messages now because they come through so frequently.
The other problem I have is with the bluetooth. I can't figure out how to send things via bluetooth and have asked many others to have a look and nobody can figure it out. The phone does not show up for others to send things to it via bluetooth. When I turn on bluetooth it does not show up. When I select make visible it only says visible for 120 seconds and starts counting down. The phone still does not show up during these 120 seconds so at the moment the bluetooth function is useless.
I have asked in the shop where I got the phone about this problem and stopping the requests to update all the time and they say they can only help with issues regarding your contract and not the handset itself. It's a phone shop!
The phone has been dropped a few times and is fine, the screen hasn't scratched at all so it is obviously much more robust than it looks.
You can download apps and games for free for the phone but to be honest the screen is too small to make many games enjoyable on it.
The phone looks and feels nice, calls and texts fine and surfs the internet fine. Any extra apps and features are pretty much useless though. A bit of a disappointment really.
Summary: A lightweight, pocket size phone which has its good and bad points, probably wouldn't get it again!
