Sony Ericsson Xperia X10
Advantages: Screen, Sound quality, camera, email
Disadvantages: Poor software
This is my 5th Sony Ericson phone. This smart phone will deliver you the best possible sound from an MP3 player / phone, smooth bass and lots of detail... but other that that I would consider it to be nothing more that a glorified email checker.
The phone will hang on you, and has lots of glithes.
When you have to answer a call, you sometimes get the option to answer/reject but more often you have to go through the whole start up procedure and rub your finger the length of the screen.
When making calls you will find yourself touching the screen possibly two / three times to access contact information. The dialer software is very poor and as of yet I have not managed to find a better one.
There is no option of password protecting ( I even went back to store and checked online for this ) your email account.. so u have to password protect your phone instead so if you need to make a call in a hurry... you need to put in your password / pattern first... and it isnt long before you started getting annoyed with this only to find out that if you remove it, anyone can check your emails.
Contacts manager software is very poor. When are software producers going to realise that your contacts and calander are all related so when I enter my wifes birthday in her contact ( had to download extra software for this ) it should show up in my calender.
All said, if your young and have lots of time messing with facebook and twitter, then this phone has everything preloaded.
Camera is fantastic (it will never replace my Canon Eos) but it does come in handy. Design is beautiful, screen is top quality and battery life is good (so far). Navigating software for music / files is useless.
All said, these phones a fairly new on the market.. just like Mp3 players once were... and we all remember what the first Mp3 players were like... complete rubbish. My honest opinion... this phone lacks direction and Sony were/are unsure of their target market with this product and therefore tried to produce a phone that would appeal to both the business and personal user. Personal use will be very varied and and if I were to some this phone up in a few words I would say that it is a kids phone and that I can't wait to get rid of it. Watch your money with these phones because wilst they may look nice, function wise they are very poor.
Summary: I can't wait to get rid of it
