I have had this phone for a year now and it still works perfectly. The system it uses matches up to the iphone with google speak and google play (although it doesn''t have as many apps), without costing the hundreds of pounds that an iphone does. The main benefit for me is that it doesn''t break; i crashed my bike and the phone went through the gears on the bike and half way down the road but there wasn''t a scratch on it. The phone feels very durable and i have never felt the need to put a case on it, unless for aesthetic purposes. However if you are really concerned about damage then you might want to consider some of the other xperias which are meant to be waterproof. I have got this phone wet before and it has survived but it did take a few days to come back to life. Aesthetically the phone is a winner, very slim and slightly curved so it sits in you hand nicely. However, after a year of wear the silver paint on the rim has chipped slightly. The screen is a good size, big enough to surf the internet, play games, answer emails and so on, but not so big that its awkward to hold or too big to fit in your pocket. I can be slow at times but not often. The main disadvantage is the limited built in memory which has caused so problems and limits the amount of apps I can have. However this can be fixed by adding a memory card to the phone. Also the camera isn''t the best quality, it can take good pictures but it takes its time to focus so it isn''t great for action shots. Overall this phone does the job it needs to and I am very pleased with it and in no rush to upgrade. I have never had a phone last this long and still work as well as it does.
I think this phone is excellent for people who use social network sites a lot. It comes with Facebook and Twitter already installed so you don't have to go through the hassle of downloading them. It also come with the eBay app which I use a lot and find it very helpful the phone ha this already installed. The phone has an excellent layout and is fairly easy to work. It has excellent battery life, which lasts about 2-3 days without charging. It displays the percentage of the battery life left so you can tell when you will need to charge it.
The outside of the phone is very smart looking. Personally I think it looks better in black but there are range of back for the phone that come in a few different colors. The layout of the buttons on the side are positioned very well as they are right under you thumb when you hold the phone. I think it is best to keep this phone in a case to avoid damaging the outside as I admit the corners can be scratched quite easily.
The quality of the phone is excellent compared to most large touch screen phones. I have dropped it a few times and as some smart phones would break and the screen would crack there is not difference to the way the phone looks or functions. The only bad thing about the quality is that the outside of the phone on the corner can wear quite easily although nothing major.
I am very impressed with the camera on the Sony Xperia j as it has an amazing focus. It come with the options 'single auto focus', 'infinity' and 'touch focus'. Personally I think the touch focus I the best one as you can chose what area of the picture you would like the camera to focus on. The camera also come with a front camera which is very useful although the picture quality is not as good on the front camera, and it also comes with 'sweep panorama' which is excellent and very helpful for taking wide shots. You can choose what sort of shot you would like to take. There are 7 options which include portrait, landscape, night scene, night portrait, beach and snow, sports and document. These are very helpful on making sure you can take the best picture possible.
Overall I think this phone is definitely worth getting and is perfect for you first smartphone as it is easy to use. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fairly cheap phone which works well.
I have had the Sony xperia since March this year and would not recommend it to anybody really. Although the phone itself looks nice, has a decent sized screen and a good camera it does not make up for the fact i have had to send it off for repair twice since march. The first time was the beginning of June when the screen would not switch on so i had to send it off which then meant i lost everything on my phone to as automatically it saves to your phone not your card. Then since it has been sent back it now decides as and when it wants to work. It is extremely temperamental and turns itself off and on when it feels like it sometimes i will be on the phone and it will just switch off with no warning or reason and sometimes will then switch back on. Another thing while your already on the phone should you accidentally touch the screen with your cheek it puts the other person on mute and rings other people from your phone book. I have not been happy with this phone at all and if i was not tied into a contract would be changing it now! I am still considering changing it anyway and it isn't even slightly reliable.
I have had the Xperia J for a bit under a year. It started of giving me some problems with the software and i had to go have it repaired, something wrong with the sim card reader, but after that it worked perfectly, although if you are planning to buy a phone, install loads of games and fill it up with things you use one time and just keep on your phone for friends, i would not recommend it because it gets quite laggy. It comes with some modified(by sony) android 4.1.2 software that has some very handy, good looking and new features that you will not find on many other phones for this price. The back is quite irritating mainly due to the fact that you have to fact that you have to dig your nail into a small opening and that it doesn't come of very smoothly.
It has a 5 mega pixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash which can also be used as a light with the right app. The screen is 4.0 inches and has 480 x 854 pixels, with multitouch(2). For earphones the input is a normal 3.5mm and at the back there is a reasonably good loudspeaker. The xperia J comes with 4gb of internal memory but you can add up to 32gb more memory with a good microSD and has 512 MB of RAM.From full battery you can be in a call from 5-7 hours depending on if you are using 3G. Usually for normal phone calls it will be 7 hours and the quality has always been good for me, around the same as an iPhone 4.
I bought my phone from my service provider for a big discount but usually it would be $220(Euro170) which, for a pretty good smartphone is quite a good price. I would recommend this to anyone who is trying to get a good, cheap smartphone for business, or normal, as long as you don't install to many games.
