Advantages: Applications, email, fun!
Disadvantages: Battery- really poor
I recently purchased the 1st Google phone, the G1. A partnership between T-Mobile and Google, its the 1st open source phone to be launched. Not for people who like thier phones small/discreet. Ideal for business users who are always on the go and need net/email access. Or just for gadget freaks like me....
Advantages
========
It comes in black or white, and whilst it's not quite as good looking as the iphone, it's still pretty sexy! I have the white phone.
It as a selection of keys on the outside (menu, call, call end, back, home) as well as a full qwerty keypad, which is ideal for long emails and text messages. The phone has a scrolling trackball, which I assume is aimed at people used to Blackberry devices. The last option for navigation is the touch screen, which allows you to scroll around the screen and perform different actions with various taps.
Messages appear in threads, like emails, which took some time getting used to,but now i love it. Much easier to find a message that you're looking for. You can email and text with ease.
The camera has no flash, which is a bit disappointing, but at 3.2mp it's ideal for day to day photos. The music player is brilliant, with a 2gb card installed to save your soundtrack on. At first i had difficulty syncing the phone with a PC as you have to "mount" the memory card. You cant access it as a storage device (a quick search on google helped with this!)
Excellent web browsing, full page displays and good Youtube access. Fantastic for Gmail users as the 'always on' net connection means your email is always being updated.
The best part is the Android Market. Here you can download free applications to personalise your phone. I've got a spirit level (always handy!!) zombie radar (you never know when they're going to come!) a budget planner/tracker, lots of games and stuff I've downloaded but will probably never used....
Disadvantages
==========
No 3.5mm headphone jack, so you're stuck with the provided headphones.
The volume button is in a daft place.Due to the way the phone is held whilst using the keypad, I've lost count of the number of times I've turned the phone onto silent mode without realising. Frustrating!
The biggest let down for me is the battery. This phone requires daily charging as battery life is just awful.
Still, despite the disadvantages, it's by far the best phone I've ever had.
Summary: I couldn't live without it....
