Nestle Drifter
by kiss_me2070
~ THE CHOCOLATE BAR ~
The chocolate bar is called Drifter and is made by Nestle. Nestle make a large range of products including well known chocolate bars and treats such as Smarties, Kit Kat and more. Drifter was first launched in 1980 by Rowntree's and is still a popular chocolate bar which is why it's still available to buy ... today. Nestle took over Rowntree's in 1988 which is why this bar now has Nestle on the packaging. In 2007 Drifter was discontinued and then re-launched again in May 2008. The bar itself consists of 2 crispy wafer fingers dipped in chewy caramel and then covered in milk chocolate. I remember seeing this bar in the shops when I was a child, how-ever I don't actually remember trying it until I was at least 15yrs old, as I used to have my favourite choccie bars then. This bar has become a favourite of mine, and I'm not normally a huge fan of Nestle chocolate as I prefer Cadbury's or Galaxy, how-ever I just love the taste of the 2 chocolate fingers combined with the chewy caramel and milk chocolate. I purchased this chocolate bar from my local Co-Op store for approximately 62p.
~ Nutritional information ~
The following is per finger:
* Protein - 1.1g (2% RDA)
* Carbohydrate - 18.6g (8% RDA)
* Fat 5.6g (8% RDA)
* Calories - 131 (7% RDA)
~ PACKAGING ~
The chocolate bar comes in a bright blue wrapper which has the words Drifter in large capital letters across the front in red and yellow. The packaging stands out as it's quite bright and you can't help but notice the name of the chocolate bar on the wrapper. On the front it states how many calories are in per finger and it also states that the product is by Nestle. On the back of the wrapper under the flap it gives you a list of ingredients, nutritional information and contact information fro Nestle should you want to contact them for any reason. It also states what the chocolate bar actually is and tells you to store it in a cool and dry place.
~ APPEARANCE/SMELL ~
When I teared open the blue wrapper I could smell a lovely chocolatey smelt, this did smell very sweet so if you haven't got a sweet tooth then you're probably not going to like the chocolate bar itself. You get 2 chocolate fingers in one packet and each finger is approximately 10sm long and 1.5cm wide. The chocolate is rippled on the top of the bar and on the side of the chocolate bar I can see where some of the caramel has seeped out form underneath the chocolate layer. The caramel is a light golden colour. The fingers remind me of a Twix bar due to the same rippled effect of the chocolate on top of the chocolate bar and around the sides.
~ TASTE TEST ~
I took a bite into the finger and my teeth sank into the wafer layers. I had to put a little more force into biting a piece off due to the chewy caramel layer inside the bar. The piece was very crisp due to the wafer and the caramel made it chewy. As I chewed the piece the chocolate melted and merged in within the caramel and wafer and together this tasted lovely. The texture of the piece of chocolate in my mouth was slightly rough due to the crispy wafer layers, how-ever this soon softened up the more I chewed the piece in my mouth. The caramel does stick to your teeth so ensure you have some chewing gum handy, to get rid of these bits. The overall taste of the chocolate finger was delicious and I loved the fact that it was so chewy and the wafer layers were crispy. The finger is a little sickly, so I decided to eat the other chocolate finger a bit later. After eating one of the fingers I was satisfied and didn't want to risk eating another one straight away as I didn't want to feel bloated or sick.
~ OVERALL OPINION ~
Although I'm not a huge fan of Nestle chocolate I love the taste and texture of this chocolate bar. I don't tend to go for this bar all the time, how-ever I will have it occasionally and whenever I do have it I really enjoy it. The chocolate tasted nice and creamy and the caramel was really chewy. The wafer layers were really crispy and you can tell just how crispy they are when you bite into the finger and chew it in your mouth. This is one of my favourite chocolate bars from Nestle and I know I will be buying it again. I give this yummy chocolate treat 4 out of 5 stars.

Nestle Smarties Iced Ring Doughnuts
by m_illie
Nestle are a trusted food brand and this product is no different. It wasn't really until recently that I began eating and enjoying doughnuts because for whatever reason, as a child I never really ate them ever now that I think back on it. So in my new found love of doughnuts, I have begun to try out different brands and flavours and it ... is no different for this product, hence my decision to buy them this week and review them also.
Upon opening the packaging there is not real overwhelming smell and even close up to the doughnuts, they are still very mild. So in this way, there is no real extra pleasure from the aroma.
Eating the doughnuts is very enjoyable. They are soft and spongey and the icing topping compliments the flavour of the doughnut perfectly. Although they are very moreish, the consistency means that you will still feel very full. The smarties compliment it excellent adding even more sweetness, without being too sweet, and provide an additional texture to the eating experience. The chewiness with the hard crunchiness works very well and is pretty unique to your bog-standard doughnut.
The price is usually about £1 for four doughnuts. This is pretty reasomable these days with the price of luxuries (they may not be ott but they aren't necessary by any means!) seeming to increase in price by the day. We tend to buy 2 packs so that everyone in the house gets a try of whichever flavour we're trying out at the time, and it suits our family of 5-7 at any time well.
The ingredients include:
Dough, Filling, Icing, Chocolate Chips.
Dough: Whaet Flour, Vegetable Fat and Oil, Water, Sugar, Yeast, Emulsifiers (E471, E322, E481), Lactose, Egg Yolk Powder, Salt, Full Fat Soya Flour, Raising Agents (E450, E500), Flavouring , Flour Treatment Agent (E300).
Filling (13.6%): Golden Syrup, Glucose Syrup (Contains Sulphur Dioxide), Water, Butter (With Added Salt), Sweetened Condensed Milk (Sugar, Milk Solids, Butterfat), Modified Maize Starch, Salt Flavouring, Gelling Agent (E440).
Icing (12.1%): Sugar, Vegetable Fat, Whole Milk Powder, Skimmed Milk Powder, Cocoa Powder, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin), Salt, Flavouring.
Chocolate Chips (6.1%): Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Whole Milk Powder, Cocoa Mass, Venilla Natural, Emulsifier (E476).
I'm not so sure if I would recommend because although they do taste great they are a little too irresistible for our house and tend to run out within the hour. Read the complete review |

Nestle After Eight Straws
by kama0529
I've had a tube of After Eight Straws in the cupboard for ages, and tonight after dinner (not after 8 though ;) ) we decided to open them. They come in a elegant green tube that I thinks looks much more sophisticated than the box shape that the After Eight classic wafers come in. The tube cost me £3.50 in my local newsagents a few months ... ago - which seemed like a decent price for this type of confectionary, until I worked out that that equated to 17.5p per straw that works out expensive actually.
The straws are accessed by twisting the top off so that the straws are poking out of the top of the green tube. The tube contains 20 of the straws and they are about 13 cm long and they are quite thin - not unlike Matchmakers, but the outside layer is smooth instead of textured. The outside layer is made out of milk chocolate, where on the inside is a solid but soft mint concoction which is very minty. The taste of the chocolate and the mint complements each other perfectly. However, I can't help but compare these straws to the wafers and I really feel that they do not add anything - and infact are probably not as nice as the wafers because the mint is more solid and so there isn't that lovely rich gooey texture.
Overall, although these are nice, I don't think that I'll buy them again - simply because I think the wafers are better.....and cheaper. Read the complete review |
