Asda Angel Cake
Advantages: so light and good tasting
Disadvantages: calories again
You know how some foods remind you of when you were a child? Well this is one of my childhood favourites not always Asda one as you can buy them in most different shops, but this review is for the Asda cake which I purchased today.
I used to get Angel cake muddled with Battenburg when I was small due to them being the same colours but after a while I worked out that one was squares and the other not.
Angel cake is made up of very light moist and fantastic tasting sponge cake. Each cake has three different colours to make the cake and between each coloured sponge is a layer of vanilla cream icing filling.
The way the cake was arranged today was different from the pictured one on here. The base was white followed by a yellow middle layer and a pink top. The entire cake has a golden brown layer over it from where it was cooked. I'm never sure if they cook the different colours and make the cake up that way or cook it whole and slice it to add the cream. But after looking at the cake now closely I think they make them up separately...
Unless you want huge slices you need to slice the cake width ways which will give you a nice slice with all the sponges colours in.
I'm afraid these are rather moreish so don't blame me for your calorie intake about to go up. Would recommend trying some if you haven't already.
The cake provides 368 calories per 100g but it doesn't state the pack size anywhere on the pack so if you want to know per serving you need to weigh it yourself.
The cost of this cake today from Asda was £1.00.
Summary: A lovely cake which is never a let down.
