Asda Angel Cake
Advantages: Sweet, light and fluffy, great value
This used to be one of my favourite types of cakes when I was little although I haven't had it in years. So when I saw one the other day whilst shopping in Asda I just couldn't resist trying it out again.
Angel cake is a soft sponge cake with three different coloured layers which makes it look very pretty and delicate. The layers are pink, yellow and white and each layer has a thin layer of vanilla icing in between. The top part of the cake is covered in a golden brown slightly harder coating which I presume is from where they've baked it.
The whole cake is mainly vanilla flavoured although there are slightly different tastes to the three different colours of sponge. The white sponge tastes very much like vanilla and is probably the sweetest one. The yellow sponge has a very slight hint of lemon and the pink sponge tastes a bit fruity. Each layer is very sweet though and the sponge is all very moist, light and fluffy and not at all dry to eat which is what I like about this. The vanilla icing is a bit like a sweet vanilla flavoured buttercream and is probably what adds to the moistness of the cake.
This cake only costs £1 from Asda so it's great value and when cut into individual slices I'd say that it could probably feed around 6 people.
Although I don't eat Angel cake very much anymore, I do still really enjoy it whenever I do have a bite and it's still one of my very favourite types of cakes. It's sweet, light and very angel-like so you have to be very good to get some!
Summary: A delicious and very cute cake
