Around Christmas I bought alot of party type food. I had friends over for a drink and laid on some nibbles. These appealed to me because you can heat them through or serve them cold and alot of the food I had needed to be heated through so I bought these cos I could just shove em on a foil tray and serve them cold.
These can be bought in a few different sizes I bought 15 mini rolls and they cost me £1.75 however a quick look on the Asda website tells me that these are now on offer at two packs of this size for £2.00 so its a great time to buy them if you fancy them.
These come in a see through plastic tray with cover over and on the front/top of it we are told what they are and who they are made by, that they are suitable for Vegetarians and suitable to freeze and there is an at a glance nutritional chart shown then on the back of it ingredients and allergy advice is stated, cooking instructions are given as well as a full nutritional chart, the weight is given (225g) and contact details for Asda are listed. Nice enough and informative packaging this is.
These mini rolls are made of puff pastry which is pale and golden and inside they contain cheddar and soft cheese and some tiny slithers of onion. The pastry isn't messy to eat although its puff pastry but I had these a long time ago and when I baked them they did have very flaky pastry indeed which I think is actually nicer! Cold these were bland and very unappealing and a little on the hard side. The pastry didn't taste very much at all and although you could taste the cheese it wasn't strong and there was barely any onion to mention and the mix just sat on the base of the pastry and overall they just rather bland cold however as I have mentioned already I have bought these before and had them warmed up and thought they were lovely as the cheese mix had melted, of course cold it didn't do that!
These are certainly better heated up which is what I wish I had of done for my little do now and my guests left the majority of them so I'm pretty sure they were as unimpressed as me! each of these size of rolls contain 50 Calories and 1.6 of Saturated Fat which isn't too bad but take my advice! If you buy them heat them in the oven which takes between 10-15 minutes!
Only available from Asda stores.
I brought these for the first time at Xmas because we spent the week before just picking at stuff out of the fridge instead of cooking proper meals. They're so yummy I think one of us in the house has brought them at least once a week since and most weeks we get through a couple of packs because they're the only ROLL snack we all agree on!!!
They're not all that mini compared to a lot of small sausage rolls you can buy in the supermarkets, I would say they're about half the size of a normal sausage roll that you can buy in a 6 packfrom ANY of the supermarkets. They look nice and golden and are nicer looking than in the photo Dooyoo have got up!
The filling is cheese and onion instead of sausage and it's a proper nice filling. The pastry is crispy and flakes all over the place when you bite into a roll, I've eaten them hot and cold and the pastry is delish both ways but it's a bit dry when you munch them straight out of the fridge.
I LOVE the filling, I've eaten loads of cheese and onion things like this but this is deffo one of the nicest. It's got a strong onion taste but that's not over powering and it goes wicked with the cheese. The cheese is a bit creamy and reminds me of the cheese they use in the cheese and onion pasties from Greggs.
I think the filling goes better when it's warm but if you have it cold dipping the roll in a bit of bbq sauce brings the cheese flavour out. They taste completely different from hot to cold and sometimes I fancy it a certain way but they only take a few mins to warm up in the oven so most of the time I just do that.
You get 9 mini rolls in a pack and they're best eaten the day you buy them but they'll keep for a couple of days.
