Lovely but where went the chicken!

I love snacky type foods and so when I spotted these in Asda costing £1.75 for little chicken and blackbean dumplings I couldn't resist grabbing a couple of packets for me and my flatmate/bestmate to nibble on one night last week!

      The Packaging:

These simply come in a clear plastic tray and with a clear plastic cover over that and then you get a small mainly red in colour pull on/off sleeve. On the front of that we are told that they are Asda 'Chosen By You', New! 6 Chicken & Black Bean Dumplings andf that they are freezable and the best before date is clearly displayed. On the back of the sleeve other information given includes ingredients and allergy advice being given, there is a full nutritional chart listed as well as cooking instructions and contact details for Asda are given. My first impression of the packaging was that there wasn't too much of it however they had to taste great these because the dumplings are really small and you only 6 and so they are not really cheap fpr the size you get!

      The Dumplings:

To cook these you simplycook them in the oven and from chilled and they take about 8-10 minutes and from frozen 10-12 minutes.

They are half moon shape, small and a bit like a dainty pasty to look at. Pale cream in colour they are pastry on the outside and through cooking that does go a golden colour but not flaky or crispy or anything and to be honest the pastry although its ok isn't striking in flavours it just holds the filling within it very well without going soggy or falling apart.

Inside you get a gorgeous smelling (garlic and soy sauce) dark brown mix. This is some tiny pieces of chicken along with a few teeny black beans, carrots and onions (which are diced and well cooked through) and it has a tangy taste of mixed spices which include garlic, ginger, tumeric and a very slight amount of chilli powder.

These do not really contain a sauce as such. I was expecting an oozing black bean sauce but instead that sauce coats the ingrediets and soy sauce and pepper really does season these nicely and so they are very easy to handle.

Highly flavoured, excellent quality ok these could do with more than 20% chicken in them and to be honest I couldn't really taste what was in there or see it but saying that the mix was finely chopped and well blended! We both loved these little snacks and I can totally see why they seem so expensive now for 6 tiny ones! Yummy!
