I'm a very big fan of Egg Custard Tarts - In fact, it doesn't matter who makes them as I seem to like them all! Until now, my favourite was the Tesco variety, with the Somerfield branded ones down at the bottom of my personal league table. It was only recently that I tried the ADSA ones for the first time, which retail at £1 for the four pack.
Ingredients

The egg custards contains;
Whole Milk (41%), Wheat Flour, Pasteurised Egg (15%), Sugar, Vegetable Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Dextrose, Salt, Ground Nutmeg (0.2%), Flavouring, Emulsifier (Mono and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Raising Agents (Diphosphate, Sodium Bicarbonate), Colour (Carotenes), Gelling Agent (Pectin), Antioxidants (Fatty Acid Esters of Ascorbic Acid, Alphatocopherol), Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin), and Egg Custard (61%)
...Big ingredient list here which is always a bit dodgy - that said, I can turn a blind eye to dodgy ingredients in egg custards, because I like them too much to give them up!
Flavour

Appearance wise, these egg custards look very appealing with golden pastry and a good sprinkling of nutmeg on the top - 'but how do they differ from the Tesco version in terms of their flavour?' you may ask. Well, generally, the overall taste is very similar, although there is a subtle hint of vanilla which the Tesco ones lack - strange really as vanilla isn't shown in the ingredients list! Also, these ASDA custards seem to have a looser consistency, although I neither class this as a good or bad credential in an egg custard. The most important thing with this product is to make sure you eat it fresh, as after only a relatively short time in the fridge, the delicious pastry can go soggy fairly quickly. This isn't a criticism, merely an excuse to eat them all in a short space of time!

I highly recommend these delicious little tarts, and although I have liked all of the egg custards that I have ever tasted, these ASDA ones have instantly become my favourites - I would certainly buy them again, and at only a pound they represent very good value for money.
