Advantages: Fab price, lovely pastry, tasty filling

Disadvantages: Filling is a bit sloppy

I have always liked a good old traditional custard tart but it does seem that these days a really decent one is hard to find. Sometimes the pastry is not quite right, sometimes it's the filling, sometimes it's both. These ones from Asda are not perfect but they are not too far from it and for the price they really are a good buy.

I purchased some of these yesterday, a pack of 4 cost me only £1 which I thought was a great bargain! They are in the traditional style, with a little sprinkle of nutmeg on the top, they are in the fridge section of the store and they are recommended to be kept refridgerated when you get them home. The packaging is pretty good, they managed to stay in one piece on the journey home, shoved into a carrier bag and then into the car and then out again!

The pastry is very nice, just the perfect amount of moistness - some custard tarts have very soggy pastry and some have it too dry and crumbly, this was just right. The filling tastes perfectly fine but my only criticism is that it s a little bit too 'wobbly', kind of a bit too sloppy. I do prefer it a bit firmer, this may just be my own personal preference, but I am sure the ones I used to have years ago as a child from the bakers shop were a bit firmer.

Overall they are nice enough, I am impressed with the pastry and the price is fantastic.

Summary: A really good value treat
