Advantages: good for health and taste good too
Disadvantages: bland bag
Almonds are fast becoming a must have health food. Not many people are aware of the health benefits of eating these little sweet things. Usually I miss them when in food shops, because they are in a special health section, which is hidden by the fresh fruit! Almonds not only taste good, they are versatile for cooking purposes and are great for the hair and skin.
Asda almonds are available in a bag of 150g. That sees me through for a good three weeks usually, taking into account that I like to munch on them dry. If you do this, you will soon get addicted to the lovely sweet, slightly nutty flavour. Have one and you will soon be reaching for them all day! Actually, if you're hungry, they do bridge hunger gaps.
The almonds are in varying sizes and it is best to grab a handful and chomp away for a snack. If you would rather use them in cooking, why not try using in flapjacks. I crushed some up with a pestle and added to mine and they gave the flapjacks a wickedly moreish taste. The almonds cut through with a natural evocative sweetness.
You could also try using them in savoury dishes, like curries and stews to bring out a sweeter flavour. I have also used them to dress cakes. Take a sponge cake, ice it then decorate with flaked almonds around the edges. The almonds have a delicate crunch about them, but will not cause the teeth any stress. In terms of value expect to pay about a pound or so a bag, though sometimes you will be able to get two bags at a discounted price.
The almonds are also great for hair and skin and help to maintain a healthy immune system so why not try some.
Summary: good snack
