Advantages: Crispy, traditional party classic
Disadvantages: Quite Salty, bacon is slightly fatty in some cases
I think most have you have guessed by now that Mr Lools and I have really been hammering the Asda Party Food so you have guessed it. Yet another review. This time around is Asda Sausage and Bacon Wraps
Asda Sausage and bacon wraps are part of the party food range. The packaging is branded consistently with the Asda party food range; a deep red cardboard box with a very festive look to it. There are 20 items per pack. There is an image of the cooked product on the front of the box.
The cooking instructions are also on the box and the sausage and bacon wraps should be cooked at 200C for 15-18 minutes.
A pack of 20 sausages wrapped in bacon costs £1. I think that is very reasonable as although the sausages are small you do get a lot for your money and if you were serving these at a party they are an item which as my mother puts it "bulks up the buffet table", meaning that you look like you have a lot on your buffet table!
***Sausage and Bacon Wraps***
When these are removed from the oven there is a lovely meaty scent very much like bacon sandwiches.
I personally like bacon to be very crispy therefore I was not disappointed as when these were removed from the oven the bacon had gone a dark colour and texture wise was very crispy without being burnt. The issue that I did have was that the bacon wrapped around at least half of the sausages in the pack was quite fatty and did not contain as much meat as I would have liked. Therefore when I tasted these I spent my time trying to avoid the fatty pieces of bacon.
Taste wise the sausage and bacon wraps are very much as you would expect from a traditional favourite. The bacon on the outside is crispy however is a little too salty for my liking and this salty taste is what hits you first. When you reach the mini cocktail sausages these have a meaty slightly spicy taste (like Cumberland sausages do). What I particularly enjoyed about the sausages was that they were pretty lean and contained no grisly bits. The after taste in your mouth is quite a salty one from the bacon
Per Sausage and bacon wrap
These are of reasonable quality and are pretty average taste wise. The sausages are not at all gristly and are lean and are wrapped in crispy bacon which makes a crunchy snack with a softer meat centre. However are let down as the bacon the sausages are wrapped in is too salty and on many of the sausages was a little too fatty rather than being meaty. Price wise £1 for 20 sausages wrapped in bacon is good value.
Not my favourite party food but a traditional classic that will be featuring on my festive buffet table but not as part of mine and Mr Lools' evening snacking menu!
Summary: Bacon Wrapped Sausages great for parties
