Advantages: Cheap and tasty
Disadvantages: Cant complain about anything at this price
As a not so well off student, I have recently begun to try some more of Asda's own brand products. I am a great lover of snacks, even though they are terribly bad for you so I decided to try quite a few of the cheap packets of biscuits. Sometimes, I think Smartprice products are hit and miss so I was prepared to be disappointed with their biscuits.
This product comes in plain white packaging with the well known green asda writing on. There is no picture of the product inside so if you have never tried these, you really have no idea what you are in for. Most people know what custard creams look like already but if you don't, look on another, more expensive packet first. A 400g packet will cost you 30p and this will get you 30 biscuits. At 1p a biscuit, you cant really complain about the quality. You do get what you pay for after all.
The product itself is custard flavoured cream sandwiched in-between two biscuits. As a cheaper brand, the cream does not fill the whole of the inside of the biscuits but instead, sits in the middle, leaving gaps around the edge. I have bought these quite a few times now and very rarely do I find any broken biscuits which I think is fantastic. I don't dunk these into any kind of drink so I cannot comment on how well they do in regards to breakage.
Asda custard creams are very sweet. The cream doesn't really taste like real custard but it does have a nice taste to it. Along with two very crunchy biscuits, these are a great snack. The flavour of the cream and the biscuits complement each other well but I can never eat too many at once because of how sweet they are.
If you are trying to save some pennies then Asda custard creams are a great alternative to the more expensive brands. I don't see the point in spending lots of money on something like this and will definitely carry on buying them.
Summary: I like them!
