Advantages: GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY.

Disadvantages: HIGH IN CALORIES.

We are having special visitors for supper tonight, my brother in law is home for a fortnight from Dubai. So him and his wife are coming for a nice meal.

My husband is a brilliant cook. Far better than me. He makes a fantastic vanilla cheescake, and for the base he uses smart price digestive biscuits. The only problem being there is always half a packet left, calling me from the cupboard to be enjoyed with a mug of steaming tea.

Smart price digestives dont look to attractive on the supermarket shelves. They are packaged in the usual unassuming green and white packaging that is associated with the smart price brand. (the picture above is for asda own brand digestives, not smartprice!)

The package for smartprice biscuits is rather large, the packet is indeed a rather whopping 400g. The usual dietry advice is included on the reverse side of the packaging. There is very detailed nutritional information, accompanied with an equally comprehensive list of ingredients. Allergy advice is also provided. These biscuits are suitable for vegetarians.

When opening the packaging I was very pleased with the appearance of the digestives. They are rather large in diameter and golden brown in colour. The scent of wheaty aroma is also evident when opening the packaging. The biscuit itself has small holes indented into the centre. There is also sweetmeal digestive lettering stamped into the biscuit.

These digestive biscuits certainly pass the taste test. They are sweet unyet not overly so. They are very wheaty and this compliments the sweetness perfectly. They are also very durable when dunking in your tea too. They are not wimps in the dunking department. They are like the SAS of the dunking world. Withstanding constant dunking intact. There will be no breaking off and floating to the bottom of your mug with these biscuits.

I honestly can not tell the difference between these smart price branded digestives and other more expensive brands. This smartprice brand really does step up to the mark as far as quality and value for money is concerned. The price of this large pack of biscuits is under £1 which is considerable value when you look at the cost of other branded digestives.

As for its use as the base of the cheesecake, I can not comment on the one that was made last night. I have been given strict instructions by my husband to stay away from the fridge today. So I will have to resist temptation. However going by previous cheescakes, the digestives are a fantastic ingredient in this delicious desert.

Summary: PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR AND STEP AWAY FROM THE FRIGE!!!
