Advantages: Very cheap, very nice

Disadvantages: Packaging is very boring, but at that price who cares!

Well a crumpet is a crumpet as far as I'm concerned,
I have tried many different varieties in the past and the only difference I have found is that the Asda crumpets are slightly thinner than a more expensive crumpet.

However at just 35p for a pack of 6 I am really not bothered about a few millimeters!

Ingredients (very accurate, the list is taken from the product information at www.asda.co.uk):

Wheat Flour , Water , Raising Agents (Sodium Bicarbonate, Diphosphates) , Spirit Vinegar , Yeast , Salt , Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid) , Preservative (Potassium Sorbate) .

There are 129 calories and 0.9g of fat per 2 crumpets. all other nutritional values can be found under the product on www.asda.co.uk

It is recommended on the packaging that these are grilled for a few minutes on each side, however, you can usually just pop them into a toaster, as long as your toaster is big enough.

I find that crumpets in general are very boring on their own, however if you add a little butter, a little jam or melt a little cheese on top, they become a whole new experience!

I enjoy eggy crumpets for a weekend breakfast, they are much better for you than a sausage or bacon sandwich, and I have these with a nice big blob of brown sauce.

They are very yummy, and are very inexpensive to make, so beat the credit crunch and give them a go!

My Recipe for Eggy Crumpets:

Ingredients

* 6 Asda smart price crumpets
* 4 eggs
* Butter
* Salt and pepper

How to make:

* Whisk your eggs in a measuring jug adding a little salt and pepper to taste. Tip the mixture into a bowl.

* Push your crumpets into the beaten egg mix turning them over a few times so that they soak up the mixture.

* Heat a little butter in a pan and add the crumpets. Cook them for a few minutes until slightly golden, then turn them over once and cook them the same on the other side.

I have also added chopped coriander before which was yummy.

I have also seen Jamie Oliver do this with a crumpet before, a while back however, if I remember right, he used Chillies, which would be nice if you like a little spice.

Summary: A great little meal
