Advantages: tasty and cheap
Disadvantages: smaller than some brands and not always available
I shop wherever the offers are. ASDA often have the cheapest prices though so I do tend to go back to ASDA a lot for their cheaper products.
ASDA have a value brand called smart price which offers everyday products at affordable prices. The only downside to this is that the packaging is very plain and the products can sometimes be of a lower quality than premium brands.
I buy a lot of products from the smart price, more so since the credit crunch. I have tried a lot of products and overall find then to be of a reasonable quality, some are great and some not so good.
Smartprice crumpets are one of the better products from the range. I have had them on numerous occasions and find that they are just as good as the premium brands if not better. They are lovely and soft and toast very well. I haven't brought them for a while, but the last time I did they were about 29p for a six, which is the cheapest I have seen.
I recently tried a premium brand of crumpets when they were on offer and I have to say that these are actually better. They freeze very well too, which means you can stock up when they have. The only down side I find is that they don't always have them in stock at ASDA.
My favourite way to have these crumpets is toasted with margarine and marmite or cheese spread but they are very versatile and you could put whatever you wanted to top.
Summary: cheap, tasty and easy to freeze
