I can't eat any pasta dish without garlic bread on the side, lasagne, spag bol, ravioli etc.. are just not the same without a slice or two!

In most shops, to buy a frozen garlic baguette you should expect to pay around £1, Asda offer their smart price variety for only 40p! For this you get a 170g baguette, sliced and filled with garlic butter. You will find this in the freezer section and usually doesn't have as much frontage as other breads, so be careful not to miss it.

The packaging is fairly plain, the standard white plastic with a green stripe and a green garlic clove printed on, the packet says this is a "part baked baguette filled with garlic butter" On the back of the packet is the cooking instructions and nutritional information.

This product can eiter cooked from chilled or from frozen. To cook from chilled, remove all packaging and place on a baking tray, cook in a oven at 200 degrees for 10-12mins. To cook it from frozen just increase the cooking time to 14-16mins. If I am ever in a rush I jus put the oven to full heat and it will cook from frozen in ten mins without a problem.

When you remove the baguette from the packaging, it doesn't look any different to the more expensive varierties, there are around 10 thick slices, you can see traces of the butter in the cracks, but as we always cook from frozen thats about all you can see.

When it is cooking you can smell the garlic, and looking in the oven you can see the crust turning a nice golden brown colour, you know when it is ready to eat when you give it a squeeze and butter comes out of the slices.

When it comes to eating this, I have always found there to be plenty of butter on each slice, with a good strong garlic taste, you can see some added chives which also make it look better too.

For 40p, you can't go wrong with this product, definitely worth a try, and less than half the price of others!
