Advantages: Easy to cook, economical and tastes great!
Disadvantages: None at all for me!
Both me and my mate who I am staying with at the moment like a lot of pasta and pizza dishes and of course no meal is complete with garlic bread! I usually opt to buy something a bit more expensive than this fearing that something this cheap will spoil an otherwise nice meal however the other week was the first time I purchased this and since then we've had a few of them! These can by the way be purchased in the refrigerator section or freezer section of Asda so you have a choice!
The Packaging:
Long white and bright green plastic wrapper. On the front of the packet I am told that it is Asda 'Smart Price' Garlic Baguette 'Part-Baked Baguette Filled With Garlic And Parsley Spread' and I am also told that of course it is freezable, suitable for Vegetarians, that it contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives or hydrogenated fat and the best before date is clearly displayed too. Other information listed on the back of the packet includes ingredients and allergy advice being given, storage details and a full nutritional chart is stated as are cooking instructions and contact details for Asda being given. It's a cheap looking but informative packet.
The Baguette Itself:
What you get is one French stick of bread with slices to the top of it and you can see the creamy and green looking spread on each slice. To cook this is really very simple indeed. You can either cook it form chilled and in the oven for about 10-12 minutes or from frozen it takes about 14-16 minutes (I've done both these methods and both are as equally good as each-other).
When you take the baguette out of the oven it should be sort of hard to the touch, smell slightly of garlic and be golden in colour. It isn't a small baguette with about 8 slices to it (give or take a couple, I've never sat counting them lol).
Taste wise both me and my mate love these. The bread is soft and moist on the inside due to the generous helping of buttery topping, the bread is easy to tear, well seasoned and slightly crispy on the outside.
These offer excellent value for money and they are really easy to heat through and enjoy. I see these as a perfect meal accompaniment. Not too overwhelming on garlic but distinctive in flavour however I can't detect the parsley on these but for me that's a mighty good thing as I'm not mad keen on parsley anyway!
Very nice Asda I'm impressed for sure!
