Advantages: Tasty, soft and fluffy, very easy to make
Disadvantages: Not quite as nice as my mum's pancakes!
I bought some of these for Pancake Day but because my husband hasn't been well we didn't get to try them out until last night.
These are frozen pancakes from Aunt Bessie's and are the easy way out of actually making pancakes from scratch. There are 6 in a pack and I'd say that 3 or 4 should be enough for 1 person depending on how hungry you are. They only cost £1 for a pack of these which is excellent value.
They are so easy to do they just need to be heated either in a saucepan or in the microwave. I choose the saucepan as I thought the turnout would be better. You just need to cook them on a medium heat in a saucepan for 30 seconds, turn over and heat the other side of the pancake for 30 seconds, then flip back over and reheat the other side for another 15 seconds and then serve immediately. The cooking instructions didn't say that you needed to use oil but I used a tiny bit in the saucepan just to stop the pancakes from sticking to the pan.
They're very slightly smaller and very slightly thicker than the pancakes I'm used to but I suppose everyone's come out differently depending on the size of the saucepan you use. Once they've been heated, the pancake becomes floppy and soft like it should and it turns a slightly golden colour. They don't stay hot for too long which is why the pack says to serve them immediately but they still taste perfectly fine after losing their heat.
I was a little hesitant about eating frozen pancakes but they taste just the same as any other pancake. They're soft, fluffy and a little sweet and tasted delicious with both savoury and sweet fillings. I'm used to my mum's own pancakes which she usually cooks from scratch so this is the first time that I have tried other pancakes at home - I have to admit that they weren't quite as nice as my mum's pancakes but then nothing usually is as good as mum's cooking is it?! They were perfectly tasty and lovely and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.
