      Yummy

My husband and 8 year old son are huge fans of the dark chocolate Bahlsen biscuits and my mother-in-law always stocks up on these when on special offer for us to take home with us after a visit.

On reaching into the bag filled with such biscuits I unexpectedly pulled out these Messino dark chocolate continental jaffa cakes which were not appealing to my son because of the orangey bit so hubby and I tucked in ourselves!

These treats consist of luxury sponge cakes with real orange fruit filling, half-coated in dark chocolate.

They are quite small and rectangular in shape and look more like biscuits than cakes as are fairly thin.

The sponge part is light and delicate, the jam filling is tangy, orangy and gives a real zing to the tastebuds and the dark chocolate is crisp, rich and smooth and all put together make for a delicious if diminutive treat. These had been kept in our outside fridge which stores drinks and is on a very cold setting but this had not harmed the flavour at all and probably helped in keeping the chocolate crisp tasting too.

These went delightfully well with a cup of coffee and are quite moreish although the richness of them does stop you from being a complete pig and eating the whole pack. My husband ate four in one go and I ate two.

They come in the usual Bahlsen dark blue recyclable box which features these appetising little cakes on the front sitting next to a juicy looking orange cut in half and an individual segment too for good measure.

The cakes themselves are in a plastic tray, two deep with a plastic outer layer to keep them fresh and I think there were 20 in the box but not sure but 125g box costs 0.98p which I thought was pretty good value as the normal biscuits are much more expensive than this.

3 of these little cakes contain 143 kcals and 2.8g of saturated fat so not too bad (although not too good either) but if you can eat these in moderation they are fine! The only down side though is that they are gone in two bites or one if you have a very big mouth! I think they could do with being slightly thicker perhaps on the sponge base but perhaps I am just being greedy.

These look luxurious and taste luxurious and look nice served on a plate if you are having a posh cuppa with somebody lol.

      Recommended.

      Thanks for reading. x
