Advantages: very filling and healthy
Disadvantages: bit dry and crumble easily
What with aiming to get to work for 9.30, and dropping my daughter off to nursery prior to this, often there just isn't enough time to have a proper breakfast at home. Don't get me wrong, where I can when I get to work I usually will have a quick bowl of porridge or if I am naughty I'll buy a sausage sandwich from the cafe across the road but the journey to work on the bus my tummy will grumble. At the moment these biscuits are a life saver for me as they are filling and nutritious and stop my tummy making obscene noises so everyone on the bus doesn't stare at me!
- Packaging -
They come in a rectangular bright yellow cardboard box which highlights they are belvita Breakfast biscuits and the variety I am reviewing are the milk and cereal ones. Inside there are 6 packets and in each packet there are 4 well sealed biscuits in clear plastic wrapper. This allows for all the biscuits to remain fresh once the box is opened and I normally take one pack a day with me to work.
- The Biscuits -
The biscuits are a long oval shaped, quite thick and taste a mixture of malt and wheat. They are made with 5 wholegrains, a great source of fibre and are rich in cereals which can be tasted in the complexity of the biscuit. They have a faint indented picture on top of the biscuit which looks like the shape of wheat to further reinforce the healthiness of the biscuit.
Taste wise these biscuits are slightly dry yet to me they are still quite moreish! Eating one makes me want more, but I think they have been clever to only put 4 in a packet as after the fourth one I do feel quite full on these and don't want any more! The smell of these biscuits like wheat with a hint of a smell of nut trace. The consistency is a bit disappointing of these biscuits as they seem to break in half and into pieces quite easily, so I don't particularly tend to eat a whole one, but more nibble on bits at a time like a rabbit! Each biscuit contains 56 calories which surprised me for one tiny biscuit! As I am not too fussed about calorie counting I don't mind this, but can understand it may not appeal to those who do!
- Overview -
These biscuits are really nice and filling, and my bus journey to work lasts about 40 minutes and these help suppress my hunger and keep me fuller for longer for the entire ride. There have of course been days when I have been so rushed that these are all I eat all morning (although I will always have a hot drink of some variety when I get to work) and I would say about 2 hours after eating these will I feel hungry again which is a long time for someone like me who enjoys constantly snacking on things!
The biscuit's don't come in cheap as I paid £2.49 for this box in Sainsburys which is steep considering I bought them the week before in Tesco on a half price offer for a much friendler £1.24! Although advertised as a breakfast biscuit I have eaten them as a mid-afternoon snack and they have been great at keeping my sweet tooth at bay from eating unhealthy chocolate and crisps! I would definitely recommend them as they are little and lightweight little packs to sneak in your handbag and munch on the sly :)
Summary: great little snack which is filling and can munch on the go
