Advantages: Tasty, filling
Disadvantages: High calorie, sugar and fat content
Since returning to work after my maternity leave I have been trying to get back into the habit of food routines at work, such as set morning breaks and lunch breaks, rather than being able to eat whenever when I was at home. I seem to have quite a fast metabolism and get hungry quickly, despite me always eating a hearty breakfast, so I need to have something with me that will be filling and be my little treat for the day!
I usually always pack a cereal bar to munch on as my little treat to eat with my lunch, and when I saw Tesco selling these Cadbury Brunch bars for £1 for a pack of 6, I thought they would be ideal to try. I vaguely remember trying these a while ago, but the packaging has been updated from the photo shown above. These bars appear to come in two main flavours - raisin and choc chip. My local Tesco only stocked the raisin, and I was quite happy with this.
On the front of the box, it states that these bars contain 'oat flakes, bran flakes, raisins, crispies and a drizzle of honey dipped in Cadbury milk Chocolate. When you are eating these bars, it is possible to taste all of those ingredients listed above, and it really makes for a tasty treat. I say treat, since one bar alone is worth 150 calories. One bar also contains 14.8g of sugar and 5.5g of fat. So, it isn't what you would call a healthy cereal bar, and should be classed as one that is reserved for treats. However, I think it is fair to point out that despite the high calorie content, this is a very filling bar, that will probably ensure you aren't reaching for another snack in a couple of hours time, as it will definitely fill you up!
There is no doubt that these are tasty cereal bars, especially with the added chocolate layer at the bottom, but I'm not sure they are the kind of bars that I would buy every week as I do think they are quite high calorie, even though I now they fill me up well. I would purchase these again to keep in the cupboard as a treat, but not as an everyday cereal bar, simply due to the high calorie, sugar and fat contents.
Summary: A nice filling treat but not for everyday
