“ Brand: Cadbury / Type: Chocolate Sponge Pudding „
I spotted these puddings in the supermarket last time I went shopping, as they were new and on offer with an introductory price of £1.00 for a pack of two puddings.
The puddings are basically Cadbury's chocolate sponge cake covered in cherry flavoured chocolate sauce. They are supposed to be served hot, and you can either microwave or steam them but they're not suitable for heating in a conventional oven. I microwaved these and they took about a minute to heat up. You just take the film lid off, and pop the purple coloured pot in the microwave, being careful not to burn your fingers when you take it out!
The sauce is at the bottom of the pot so when you empty the pudding out it gets covered with the hot cherry chocolate sauce. The smell is divine, you can smell the cherry from the sauce and the sponge smells of chocolate. We had ours with vanilla ice cream which started to melt on top of the puddings and created a lovely gooey warm/cold chocolate and ice cream combination. The sponge is a good size, a little bit smaller than a tennis ball, which is a good size as it doesn't look overwhelming in the bowl but still manages to fill you.
Taste wise, I found these puddings to be a bit disappointing to be honest. The chocolate sponge is nice but doesn't have an intense enough chocolate taste for my liking. The sauce is smooth and adds some moisture to the sponges, but the overriding taste is cherry, which again means that you're not getting a huge hit of chocolate. The sponge was nice and soft though, and the sponge with the sauce is a good combination because it stops it being too dry. If you're a big fan of cherry, you'll probably enjoy this because you can taste the cherry in the chocolate sauce.
I would recommend a bit of trial and error with the microwave time for these puddings. I put them in for a minute each, even though the packaging recommended doing them for 50 seconds (my microwave only works in 30 second increments!), and I found the sponge got cold quite quickly. I would have preferred it to be hotter so that the ice cream melted more easily.

Overall, I would have these puddings again, but I wouldn't pay full price for them as I think they are expensive for what they are.
