There are better cakes out there.

I am a huge fan of Cadbury's products. I think almost everything they do is the best out there on the market and tastes great. My favorites are the traditional products, but I also like a lot of the new ones. Cadbur's have been around for over 100 years now, so that is a lot of products to try, and believe me I have had a good go!

I love all the other Cadburys mint chocolate products, the crispy cake bits and the mint thins are lovely, but for some reason this product didnt quite do it as much for me.

The choc roll comes in green and Cadburys traditional purple packaging. It has the Cadbury's logo on, which for me is like a seal of quality. It has swirly green pictures and a picture of the inside of the cake, brown with creamy mint inside.

The cake comes in a box which is great for recycling. Inside the box is a sealed plastic bag to keep the cake fresh for much longer. The only downside of the packaging is that it is not resealable, which would be great as it would keep the cake fresher for longer when you dont want to eat it all in one go.

The cake itself is covered in a thin layer of delicious Cadburys chocolate. Inside is sponge in a roll formation, just like in a roly poly. The sponge is chocolate flavoured, and the inside is creamy minty filling. The sponge is nice and soft and tastes fresh, rather then prepackaged, and keeps nice for a few days.

I am not too sure about the combination of mint and chocolate and sponge, it is Ok, just not as nice and just mint and chocolate. It is a good cake though, just not as good as I had got my hopes up high for!

      A tasty treat

I saw this in our local shop on Monday when I popped in for a few bits 'n' pieces. Being a fan of mint & never having tried it before I decided to give it a whirl....

      Packaging & nutritional information:
You can't really miss this on the shelf. The box is predominantly purple (more than the picture at the top of this review would suggest). The writing on the front & sides is white on a mint green background. The back contains the Cadbury cakes quality guarantee, the ingredients and the nutritional information both for 100g & one sixth of a roll. The figures below are for 100g of the product.

      Energy: 1795kj
      Kcal: 430kcal
      Protein: 4.2g
      Carbohydrate: 60.3g
      of which sugars: (44.4g)
      Fat: 18.9g
      of which saturates: 11.6g
      Fibre: 1.5g
      Sodium: 0.23g
      Equivalent as salt: 0.58g

      The ingredients are:

      Ingredients: Mint flavoured buttercream (32%) {Sugar, Unsalted butter, Glucose syrup, Maize starch, Salt, Dried egg white, Colour (E141)}
      Milk chocolate (20%) {Sugar, Cocoa mass, Cocoa butter, Dried skimmed milk, Milk fat, vegatable fat, Dried whey, Emulsifier (Soya lecithin)}
Wheat flour, Glucose syrup, Sugar, Pasteurised whole egg, Humectant (glycerol), Fat reduced cocoa, Soya flour, Vegatable oil, Whey concentrate, Raising agents (Sodium bicarbonate, E450), Dried whey, Emulsifiers (E471, Soya lecithin, E470a)

Allergy information: This product may contain traces of nuts

The outer box is recyclable, but the film which contains the roll is not.

      The roll:
Anyone who's known me for any length of time will know that I don't have the greatest sense of smell in the world. However, the first thing that hit me after I opened the film packaging was the smell of mint. That's not to say that it's overpowering to the extent that it will permeate your whole house, flat etc, but you'll certainly know the roll is there, enticing you to try some!

The roll is completely covered in Cadbury's chocolate & you will find that small pieces of it wil crack & break off as soon as you cut into it. If you don't want to keep cleaning the surface you're using the best thing to do is put this onto a place before you cut into it. Once you've cut into the roll you'll notice that it looks very similar to a standard swiss roll, aside from the fact that the sponge is a chocolate sponge & the filling is mint.

      Taste:
As I raised a piece of roll to my mouth I could smell the mint very clearly. The outer chocolate & the chocolate sponge was delicious & it was nice to see that they hadn't skimped on the mint filling which I found very tasty. The mint taste is strong rather than subtle & I don't think many people could eat their way through a whole roll of this without feeling ill as you might do with some lesser desserts that are rather less flavoursome.

      Price:
I noticed these on offer in my local shop: £1.50 for 2. I've no idea how much it would be in a supermarket but I would suspect it to be more expensive than this.

      Opinion:
Very, very tasty. If you're a fan of mint & chocolate then this is definitely a dessert for you. It does, however, have quite a high sugar & fat content so is best avoided by diabetics or those of you on a diet. For the rest of you, it's a rather tasty treat. Try some today!

A really nice minty flavoured sponge roll

I love chocolate it is true and spotting this in Tesco recently I couldn't resist as not only was it chocolate it was mint flavoured - yummy! One of my favourite chocolate flavours! I bought as part of a multibuy and got another free so decided to also purchase the plain chocolate one for my husband.

        The packaging:
I couldn't fail to spot this on the shelf as it is very obvious who it is made by due to the purple packaging. The oblong box has a picture of the roll on it and you can see the green coloured buttercream filling quite easily. Along the box it states it is Cadbury's and generally looks quite appealing. Once inside the main box the roll itself is then wrapped inside a plastic wrap to keep it soft.

        The roll:
The roll is made by Cadburys and so of course is coated in the famous chocolate. The sponge roll is quite thick as it is made to be portioned up unlike the small ones that come individually wrapped. The roll is a chocolate sponge that has a filling of buttercream rolled into it that is mint flavoured. The roll is then coated in the Cadburys chocolate to finish it off.

        Smell and taste:
When I opened the box I couldn't really smell anything at all due to the plastic wrap but, as soon as I opened this I was hit by the minty smell! I truly love mint chocolate and this was so nice! Even though it smelt strong it wasn't that bad that it was overpowering and it was definitely a smell that made me want to eat it right away.
I cut three thin slices of off the roll and happily tucked in - the sponge is so soft and the chocolate is the usual creamy Cadbury's style. The layer of chocolate on the roll is fairly thick and was yummy to eat in little pieces breaking it off of the roll. The buttercream filling was delicious and tasted just perfect - not overpowering and just the right amount of 'mintyness'.
I really could not fault the taste in any way as for me it was simply gorgeous.

        Price:
I bought when on offer and it was £1.97 if I remember rightly for two rolls. This was in Tesco and I don't think I have seen it anywhere else as of yet. I would certainly say it is worth trying to get whilst on a Buy one get one free' offer as this way you can try both flavours without paying full price!

        Overall opinion:
I will definitely be buying this again as I truly loved it. I don't think I would pay full price for it though as if not on offer it would be a lot to spend on one dessert just for me as my husband doesn't like mint flavoured chocolate. However if ever on offer I would happily buy again. I think it is also a nice item to have as something to have with a cup of tea as a snack or even as part of party food cut into slices. Generally an all round good product for me and a big thumbs up!
