Advantages: Individually packed, good value, tasty, moist sponge
Disadvantages: Nothing
I am very partial to cakes, especially cupcakes so when my colleague at work purchased a box of The Fabulous Bakin Boys Lemon Cupcakes I was excited to try one.
The lemon cupcakes came in a box of 4 as they were the king sized version and cost just £1.00 from Asda on special offer. I personally thought this was quite good value at just £0.25 per cupcake. You can also buy the smaller version of these cupcakes in boxes of 6.
The cakes come in a purple box which is quite eye catching with yellow wording on. There is also a round hole in the top of the box allowing u to see one of the cupcakes inside. On the box you can find all the necessary information about the cupcakes including nutritional information, ingredients listings and allergy information. It also states that the cupcakes are free from artificial colours and flavours and are suitable for vegetarians. Inside the box which can easily be opened with the tear off side strip you can find the four cupcakes each individually wrapped in a clear plastic wrapper. I thought this was a really good idea as you can eat one at a time without the others going dry and also means you can pack them into a lunch box as they will stay nice and fresh and protected.
As you can imagine these cupcakes are not that great for u each single cupcake contains the following nutritional information:

Fat - 11.6g
Carbohydrates - 5.5g
Protein - 1.5g
Salt - 0.38g
The lemon cupcakes are described on the box as plain sponge with a lemon flavour topping. When I first unwrapped my cupcake from its plastic wrapper I immediately noticed how soft and squidgy the sponge felt. It was really easy to peel away the paper case containing the cupcake and it did pull away the cake or topping. The cake sponge looked moist and light and the pale yellow topping looked really appealing. I do like lemon flavoured cakes so was hoping that these would be quite tangy. I was surprised that the topping was not the lemony but instead fairly sweet and tasted quite like white chocolate. But the along was quite lemony and you could see little flecks of lemon zest in the sponge. Overall the slightly tartness of the sponge with the sweet topping worked very well and offered a good contrast.
I think these are great little cupcakes which are moist, light and tasty as well as being conveniently packaged. Obviously they are quite high in fat and calories but as part of a balanced diet they make a tasty treat.
Summary: Great little lemon cupcakes!
