I am writing this in 2012 - this product is now available at 12 for £1 a box. These little eclairs are about the length of a woman's little finger. They are about half the width of an actual eclair. They come in an elegant box - it does not say whether or not it is recyclable (unless I have ripped the symbol off, but I do not think so). A previous review on this product from a few years old states that the box and tray are recyclable, but the materials could have changed by now. The colour scheme is purple with stars and they are advertised as party eclairs - they are fit for this purpose, but we keep them as a light dessert option. They are a frozen item and have to be defrosted for 45 minutes at room temperature. 45 minutes is the time it takes, not a minute sooner. I think I tried to nibble one at 40 minutes and the cream was a little dense and icy. The choux pastry is, naturally, not as light and fluffy as you would expect from an eclair as it has been frozen and defrosted, but the quality of the product is not compromised much at all. 44 kcal per eclair 3.7g fat 2.4 of which saturates These eclairs have a generous filling of cream. It does not have much of a sweet or cream taste to it, but the texture is nice, nonetheless. There is also a thick spreading of semi-solid chocolate on top that is not too sweet nor too bland. A great party dessert, emergency dessert or light dessert option.
20 Mini Chocolate Eclairs from Iceland will cost you £2.00 per box or 3 boxes for £5.00. They come in a cardboard box and are a defrost and eat item. The éclairs are mini and they really are. They are great as finger foods or light dessert. I find éclairs quite a sickly dessert or treat so I thought I would by the mini ones for a party and they went down really well. People were having a few, as did I, but you don't need to eat the all at once and this breaks up the sickliness of them. They are really handy and can be eaten in 2 mouthfuls but still taste really yummy. They aren't just shorter than normal sized éclairs, they really are mini in every sense, even the width has been shrunk down and I think the ratio suits them much better. I think I could possibly eat more of these than normal éclairs as they are not as................ how do I describe this? Sloppy, heavy? Along those lines, where you open your mouth and feel you have too much in it (even though you only took a normal sized bite) and it slops in your mouth rather than goes down a treat. The box is recyclable and the plastic tray is too. Overall I would buy these again, but at only 20 in a box, I would suggest for parties buying more than one, and with the 3 for £5, they work out very good value for money. Just remember this is a defrost then eat item, do not eat them frozen, you will not feel too good afterwards. They only need defrosting for an hour. This is great because you can just get them out at dinner time and once you've eaten, they are ready. I really like them, they are for those with a sweet tooth but due to the mini size, they are also suitable to those who like desserts but aren't crazy sweet tooth people like me.
