Jammie Dodgers Jam 'n Custard
Advantages: Yummy biscuits
Disadvantages: None, they're yummy!
I absolutely love biscuits and particularly have a fondness for the original jammie Dodgers so when I saw this new flavour in my local Sainsbury's store on offer for 44p a pack opposed to the usual retail price of about 88p a packet I felt compelled to try them. They sounded nice eh...jam and custard! So I grabbed some and couldn't wait to try them with a cuppa that night!
Yellow and red oblong and plastic and inside there is a white cardboard tray contains 8 biscuits. On the top and on the side of the packet I'm told they are Jammie Dodgers 'Jam 'n' custard which are deliciously stretchy jam & custard filling splodged at the heart of 2 yummy shortcake biscuits and that they contain no artificial flavours or colours and there is a picture of one of the biscuits on there. On the bottom of the packet other information given includes ingredients and allergy advice (Contains Wheat, gluten, milk), there is a full nutritional chart on there, size is stated which in this case is 150g, I'm told they are suitable for Vegetarians, the best before date is clearly stamped on and contact details for Burtons are given (the manufacturers of the product). It's nice bright and informative packaging. Easy to open and totally in keeping with the brand to look at as it's so distinctive!
Well as I have already mentioned in the packet there are 8 biscuits. If you've never seen a jammie dodger before that sounds like you don't get alot for your money at all but what you have per biscuit is 2 slices of biscuit shoved together so they are thick and more like a couple of biscuits per biscuit type of thing lol.
So the biscuits are cream in colour, fairly smooth and have a sweet smell to them. They are of course lovely, sweet shortcake biscuits and between that there is a thin layer of smooth raspberry jam and a little bit of a thin yellow custard, though not much of that at all. You can see some of the mixture between the biscuits due to a cut out heart shape to the centre of them then on the top biscuit there are slight splodgy raised marks. They look and smell great...and to me this is a welcome addition to the range!
I love these. I'm not going to say more than the original jammie dodgers but I like them the same as. The shortbread biscuit is still melt in the mouth and not too sweet and the raspberry jam is still tangy though in my mind they're never be enough jam in a jammie dodger! The custard in this is light, sweet and slightly creamy and in my opinion melts in nicely with the shortcake biccie part of the ensemble.
Not too sweet these are simply very tasty and I ate 8 all in one sitting and wanted more. Thumbs up for these!
