Avoid as a meal replacement, maybe ok as a snack

Going through the cupboards this morning I came across one of these bars and decided, having reviewed Alpen's efforts it is only right that I see what the competition is like. This time the name of the product (breakfast in a bar) left me under no doubt that this was claiming to be a whole meal on its own, so I decided to test its claims by foregoing my usual bowl of cereal and slice of toast and attempt to make it from 6.30 to my usual mid-morning snack time of 11am having only eaten a cranberry and raspberry flavour bar. To start off with the bar is a good size and packaging allows you to see inside and so take a look at what you are going to eat. Unfortunately it is not a very impressive looking sight, white with raisins but very little sign of those berries mentioned on the box. Tasting the bar I was disappointed but not surprised at the lack cranberries and raspberries taste. According to the ingredients you get raspberry flavoured cranberry pieces (5% of the bar) with only 3% of the bar comprising of actual raspberry pieces. This is a little annoying as I chose the bar due to my love of raspberry. There are lots of raisins in the bar which gives it a nice chewy texture which would have been even nicer had the bar not been so dry. The taste is a little artificial and is very, very sweet which, to be honest is unsurprising considering the amount of sugar, syrup and honey that goes into making each bar (35.7grms per 100g). This sugar crash may be the reason I was very hungry again about an hour after eating the bar, and was forced to have my 11am snack early, which ruined the rest of my day's eating timetable. In my opinion, this bar needs more wheat flakes to make it filling and more REAL fruit pieces to give it flavour and sweetness. As it is, this bar is more sweet or candy bar than a viable breakfast replacement.
